The Border War lasted 23 years and involved South Africans, Namibians, Angolans, Cubans, Russians and Americans amongst others. During that period the SADF called up more than 25,000 white male conscripts each year (for a two year tour), totalling just over half a million men. The war differed from the American experience in South East Asia, in that the technical and military superiority of the South African forces was capitalised upon throughout the campaign by the South African General Staff. In consequence, the war can also be seen as one-sided for the South African Army and Air Force - during engagements they had superiority of machinery and weaponry, utlised mine proof fighting vehicles such as the Casspir and the Ratel and even employed one of the world's finest pieces of mobile artillery, the G6 155mm Howitzer. Engagements were almost always won, or else were low-loss retreats (often as small as a rugby pitch) injured servicemen were treated in M.A.S.H.-type units supported by SAAF Aerospatiale Puma helicopters, which were faster and carried more than the UH-1 in Vietnam. THE TWENTY-FIFTH SURAH AL-FURQAN (THE STANDARD OF TRUE AND FALSE) MECCA PERIOD There is little doubt that this surah belongs to the middle group of Meccan revelations, and is almost contemporaneous with Maryam (which can be placed chronologically in the fifth or the beginning of the sixth year of the Prophets mission). The title by which it has always been known - Al-Furqan - pithily circumscribes the main theme of this surah namely the statement that it is the innermost purport of every divine revelation to provide man with a stable criterion of true and false or right and wrong and, thus with a standard of moral valuation binding on the individual and on the society. Consequent upon this proposition is the stress on the humanness of every apostle sent by God to man (verse 20), in rebuttal of the false argument that the Quran could not have been God-inspired inasmuch as Muhammad was but a mortal human being who shared the physical needs of all other mortals and took part in all normal human activities (verses 7-8). SYNOPSIS Las Chulas is a character-driven documentary about coming of age and finding a place in the world. A new version of the bipartisan DREAM Act, which addresses the tragedy of young people who grew up in the United States and have graduated from U.S. high schools but whose future is circumscribed by current immigration laws, has been introduced in the Senate by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Richard Durbin (D-IL). Under current law, these young people generally derive their immigration status solely from their parents, and when the parents are undocumented or in immigration limbo, their children have no mechanism to obtain legal residency. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act (S. 1545), introduced on July 31, 2003, provides such a mechanism for those who are able to meet certain conditions. The leading bill in the House addressing the same issue is HR 1684 (Cannon, R-UT), known as the Student Adjustment Act. HR 1684 was introduced this spring and currently has 66 cosponsors from both parties.

These trajectories written and distributed electronically at the speed of light, and within seconds reach any surfer worldwide. This activity equalized the speed of the Cyber Flâneur and the Cyberspace . The cyberspace is monitored by search engines such as Google Earth and Sky, involving hundreds of thousands of computers servers that store in their memories the addresses of around ten billion WWW pages of Global and Galactic data. Connecting to the cyberspace by a central hub that links all the references in the network, for example, GPS, Google and cell phone, resemble reading information stored at the event horizon of a black hole by connecting its singularity. Every Cyber Flâneur connected to the cyberspace "downloads" the data stored in its singularity. The act of reading the map from the network simulates the cyberspace information wave function collapsing by means of the reader's submitted trajectory. The Cyber Flâneur in cyberspace is an "isolated" item among many FlâneurS, who together create the Super Cyber Flâneur. The Cyber Flâneur is equipped with electronic gadgets (cell phone, PDA, PC, VR headset, data gloves etc. that connect him to cyberspace. Similar to someone using a Scanning Electron Microscope, the Cyber Flâneur moves within the electronic hypertext that changes while reading. The Cyber Flâneur while reading becomes an universe creator, thanks to the technical ability to alter the location of the observed data. The Universe familiar to us becomes a link to every Cyber Flâneur. Cyberspace electronically compresses the events in the Universe into the singularity of the electronic cathedral. Man is situated in this singularity, while a finger (The digital finger Icon in the video that navigates and spins the universe) of his hand extends to almost touch the finger of God opposite him. He discovers that he is enclosed inside a spherical structure lined with membrane mirrors reflecting the images of everything around him. It resembles a scene from the movie "Matrix 3", in which the hero "Neo" confronts the creator of the matrix (the image of an aging man resembling God as pictured by Michelangelo) in a spherical cathedral covered with flat video screens displaying the image of Neo throughout his entire life. For a minute, it seems to him that he has returned to Pythagoras' world, where man is the center of a flat-Universe, with planets and spheres circling him, and the whole enveloped in God's embrace, as in the medieval illustration described previously. HIS DIVINE WRIT - let there be no doubt about it � is [meant to be] a guidance for all the God-conscious (**) ** - The conventional translation of muttagf as "God-fearing" does not adequately render the positive content of this expression - namely, the awareness of His all-presence and the desire to mould one's existence in the light of this awareness; while the interpretation adopted by some translators, "one who guards himself against evil" or "one who is careful of his duty", does not give more than one particular aspect of the concept of God-consciousness. 3. who believe in [the existence of] that which is beyond the reach of human perception, (***) and are constant in prayer, and spend on others out of what We provide for them as sustenance; (****) *** - Al-ghayb (commonly, and erroneously, translated as "the Unseen") is used in the Qurlan to denote all those sectors or phases of reality which lie beyond the range of human perception and cannot, therefore, be proved or disproved by scientific observation or even adequately comprised within the accepted categories of speculative thought: as, for instance, the existence of God and of a definite purpose underlying the universe, life after death, the real nature of time, the existence of spiritual forces and their inter-action, and so forth. Only a person who is convinced that the ultimate reality comprises far more than our observable environment can attain to belief in God and, thus, to a belief that life has meaning and purpose. By pointing out that it is "a guidance for those who believe in the existence of that which is beyond human perception", the Qur'an says, in effect, that it will - of necessity - remain a closed book to all whose minds cannot accept this undamental premise. **** - Ar-rizq ("provision of sustenance") applies to all that may be of benefit to man, whether it be concrete (like food, property, offspring, etc.) or abstract (like knowledge, piety, etc.). The "spending on others" is mentioned here in one breath with God-consciousness and prayer because it is precisely in such selfless acts that true piety comes to its full fruition. It should be borne in mind that the verb anfaqa (lit., "he spent") is always used in the Qur'an to denote spending freely on, or as a gift to, others, whatever the motive may be. 4. and who believe in that which has been bestowed from on high upon thee, [O Prophet,] as well as in that which was bestowed before thy time: (*****) for it is they who in their innermost are certain of the life to come! 5 - This is a reference to one of the fundamental doctrines of the Qur'an: the doctrine of the historical continuity of divine revelation. Life - so the Qur'an teaches us - is not a series of unconnected jumps but a continuous, organic process: and this law applies also to the life of the mind, of which man's religious experience (in its cumulative sense) is a part. Thus, the religion of the Qur'an can be properly understood only against the background of the great monotheistic faiths which preceded it, and which, according to Muslim belief, culminate and achieve their final formulation in the faith of Islam. *****.
