Der Shtiller Bulgar ( The quiet Bulgar) yiddish melody recorded in 1918 by Abe Schwartz & the Jewish Orchestra. Base melody used by Ziggy Elman in 1938 for his recording of "Freylach in Swing" and in 1939 in the hit song AND THE ANGELS SING , music by Ziggy Elman, Lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and recorded by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra. From the archives of yiddish music, the 1918 recording of DER SHTILLER BULGAR, by Abe Schwartz and the Jewish Orchestra. The chassidic melody that served as the basic melody to the 1938 recording by Ziggy Elman, FREYLECH IN SWING and the 1939 #1 top of the hit parade song AND THE ANGELS SING with english lyrics by the great Johnny Mercer, and the fabulous recording by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra with a vocal by Martha Tilton and a trumpet solo by Ziggy Elman. It was sheer genius on the part of Ziggy Elman to convert a chassidic melody into a swing number of the Big Band era. Trumpeter Harry Finkelman, better known as Ziggy Elman, played Jewish music before joining Goodman's band. Along with his klezmer style, Elman brought to Goodman's band the Yiddish tune "Der Shtiler Bulgar," which he had recorded under his own name in 1938 as "Frailach in Swing." The Goodman band rerecorded it in 1939 as "And the Angels Sing," with vocals by Martha Tilton and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and thus was a swing-band hit made out of a tune first recorded by the Abe Schwartz Orchestra in 1918.". Veretski Pass (http://veretskipass.com), a virtuoso trio that performs traditional Eastern European Jewish music, made a visit to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on February 19 and 20, 2007. The members of Veretski Pass are Cookie Segelstein on violin and viola, Josh Horowitz on tsimbl (cymbalom), and Stuart Brotman on bass, basy, tillinca, and baraban. Here they play a snippet from a tune called Tiraspoler Bulgar at one of their workshops.

Daha sonra devam ettiği İTÜ Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik bölümü yüksek lisans eğitimini, tez aşamasında yarıda bırakarak, İTÜ Türk Müziği Devlet Konservatuarı yüksek lisans sınavına girdi ve eğitim almaya hak kazandı. İlk bağlama eğitimini Hüseyin Düzgün'den aldı. Daha sonra Ali Haydar Emre ve Murtaza Eren'den bağlama eğitimi aldı. 2002 yılında Erol Parlak'tan ileri Bağlama Çalım Teknikleri dersleri almaya başladı. 2003 yılında Dörttelli Bağlama Grubu'nu kurdu. Bu grupla birlikte pek çok konsere, radyo ve televizyon programına konuk oldu. 2006 yılında Güven Türkmen'le beraber 2.İTÜ Bağlama Günleri'nde sahne aldı. 2006 yılında geçici bir süre Erol Parlak Bağlama Beşlisi bünyesine katıldı. Bu grupla İstanbulda ve yurtdışında (Belçika) konserler verdi. Erol Parlak tarafından yazılan Şelpe Metodu 2 ve Sinan Çelik tarafından yazıla Kaval Metodu kitaplarının notistliğini yaptı. Şelpe Metodu 2 de L.V.Beethoven' ait Fur Elise isimli eserin sanatçı tarafından yapılan şelpe adaptasyonu bulunmaktadır. Özlem Özdil, Güler Duman başta olmak üzere çeşitli albümlerde aranjör ve icracı olarak bulundu.Çalışmalarını İstanbul'da çeşitli gruplarla ve solo olarak sürdürmektedir.

Helene Domergue leads a "Bulgar" for her dance workshop on board the Klezmer Heritage Cruise in the Ukraine, May 2007. Most of the participants here were raised in deep Yiddish culture, and so these dancers are quite familiar with the stylings, posture, and aesthetics of Yiddish/Klezmer dancing. This Bulgar is quite the most popular of the Americanized klezmer dance reptoire. Halfway through the Yiddish folk singer Arkady Gendler does a bit of Yiddish finger theater, while the band - led by Alex Kontorovich of NY, cooks.
