The Last Stateway Gardens Highrise Demolition, Part 5
This was shot on May 1 (a very gusty May 1, as you'll hear) but paying work intervened, and I didn't get around to posting it until now. This building's reinforced-concrete frame may look delicate, but the wrecking ball is having kind of a hard time with it. Makes one wonder if maybe they shouldn't have just renovated them and made them part market rate like they did with Hilliard Homes and Lake Parc Place. And ENFORCE the terms of the leases this time around. But I guess they wanted to start with a clean sheet of paper.

"We wanted to open the street as soon as possible," said Joseph Resta, project manager for the Convention Center expansion. "Demolition has progressed enough that we could reopen the street early." The entire demolition project was more than 90 percent complete, he added. Broad from Race Street to JFK Boulevard was closed to allow mechanical demolition of the Odd Fellows Temple at 121 N. Broad, which was built in 1893. It was to remain closed until Saturday morning. But by 4 p.m. today the entire road was open.
