 | BAFTA 2008 London: 10 February 2008 See all the premieres at www.lsq.tv The cream of the UK's film-making community put on their tuxedos and best frocks for the annual UK Academy Awards at the swish Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. Unlike the usual melee at a typical premiere, this was a very orderly affair. Wrist ID bands were given to the queuers early in the morning and we returned to our cardboard city to await being called into a reserved area that wasn't too packed or affected by the flashes of the photographers - because none were allowed in! My fan buddies from around the world were there, and the queue started forming at midnight. I got there at the crack of dawn and was near the front. The waiting area was under a grim set of scaffolding outside a neighbouring theatre. With the cardboard and paraphernalia folk had with them to keep comfy and warm for twelve hours it was very much like living like trolls under the bridge. And there was jostling and shouting to keep queue jumpers from succeeding, some of it ugly. Once sited inside, all was well. Lots of light, no crush and few flashes - heaven. The hardest part was keeping up with the density of stars to point the camera at. I missed a few big names while concentrating on others. It was a great evening in the glare of the arc-lights especially as we were given a magic earpiece that picked up the organiser's transmissions of who was arriving. Well done organisers - all very much appreciated by the weary ones who all went home drained but happy after seeing their idols.
