Massive amoebae aggregation and multiple slime molds
A starved cell population of 10000s of Dictyostelium cells develops on agar to form a slime mold and eventually a fruiting body (latter not shown). Fluorescence microscopy is used to visualize a ubiquitously expressed GFP-fusion protein. The movie shows how the cells aggregate via chemotaxis and subsequently form slime molds which crawl away.

This was my first project with Anime Studio. The music is my "30-Second Waltz" composition. Amoebae like waltzes.

My playa art installation "The Big Giant Head" at Burning Man 2007: An interactive laser projection. The color composition adapts to the sound in the environment, such as voices and music. Also visible: The two portable Amoebae I build in 2004 using el-wire, leds and blacklight.
