![]() | Lecture 7 | Modern Physics: Special Relativity (Stanford) Lecture 7 of Leonard Susskind's Modern Physics course concentrating on Special Relativity. Recorded May 25, 2008 at Stanford University. This Stanford Continuing Studies course is the first of a six-quarter sequence of classes exploring the essential theoretical foundations of modern physics. The topics covered in this course focus on classical mechanics. Leonard Susskind is the Felix Bloch Professor of Physics at Stanford University. ![]() | Topological Scars Chern-Simon Density in g=5 2d U(1) This simulation shows how the energy density (top plot) oscillates in vortices as they move. An moreover they leave distinctive topological scars as memories of their path (bottom). These topological scars would then be detectable by the Aharanov Bohm effect or violations in the fermion current in those regions. Note that phi*phi (second from bottom) and the magnetic force (second from top) show no signatures of the vortex movement. |
![]() | g=2.5 2d U(1) Flux tube Coalescence vortex-vortex pairs of the same sign are placed 5 units apart on a lattice to interact. Lattice details L=50^2, dx=0.2. g=2.5, friction=0.05, standard higgs potential, toroidal boundary conditions. Pairs form N=2 vortices. energy density (top slice), magnetic field (middle), -phi*phi (bottom), 1d-isosurface is phi*phi=1.0 (the classical vacuum) |

![]() | Fastest Train in the World - This aint the French one!!! Maglev Technology with this 581kph BEAST of a machine. Thats 361mph!!! Most tests here in the video are only at 500kph or 310mph. Still so fast, but it is the fastest "train" in the world @ 581km/h. The French TGV is on rails, where the MagLev floats by superconducting magnetic levitation. Cool, but currently $expensive$ technology. But what a killer sound wave this thing pushes... This is an excerpt from a cpl videos on Google...one 6 minutes and another 15 if interested.
