Rick at Clayhall Compton

Title:
Rick at Clayhall Compton

Description:
The Clayhall Compton was originally installed in the Ritz Cinema Nuneaton and removed to a church in Clayhall Essex in 1968. In this short clip I am playing the melody on the Melotone (this was an electrostatic device developed by J. Compton, Organ builders in the 1930's). I had a wonderful couple of hours playing this fantastic organ facilitated by John Leeming of the Cinema Organ Society in the UK (who also shot the video!)

Malvern3.wmv
Another clip from a Dudley Savage concert at Malvern. In this one he reminisces about his boss, Harold Ramsay and his teacher, Sidney Torch. He then plays "Her name is Mary" and "Rodeo March" both by Harold Ramsay, before learning the benefits of radio microphones. "Her name is Mary" was, I believe, the last tune Dudley ever played on the organ. He stayed with my wife and I, and played it on my Conn organ - in memory of his dear wife, Doreen Mary, who passed away in 2003.

Berlin's wonderful old cinema, the Babylon,is celebrating its 80th birthday. Most of the films around at the time of its opening were silent - the first talkie actually came out just before the cinema opened - and the Babylon, along with many other cinemas, enhanced its silent film experience with sound and atmosphere from its grand cinema organ. The organ in the Babylon is still there - and is still being used.
