Kuwait Invasion and Liberation

Title:
Kuwait Invasion and Liberation

Description:
At the break of dawn on August 2, 1990, Iraqi troops crossed the Kuwaiti border with armor and infantry, occupying strategic posts throughout the country, including the Emir's palace. The Kuwaiti Army was quickly overwhelmed, though they bought enough time for the Kuwaiti Air Force to flee to Saudi Arabia. The heaviest fighting occurred at the Emir's Palace, where members of the royal guard fought a rear guard action to allow the royal family time to escape. A cousin of the Emir, who commanded the guard, was amongst those killed. Iraqi troops looted medical and food supplies, detained thousands of civilians and took over the media. There were reports of incidents of murder, bruatality, and rape being committed by Iraqi troops against Kuwaiti citizens. After a brief puppet government headed by Alaa Hussein Ali was installed, Iraq annexed Kuwait. Saddam Hussein then installed a new Iraqi provincial governor, describing this as "liberation" from the Kuwaiti Emir; this was largely dismissed as war propaganda. George Bush Sr. mobilizes the whole world to liberate Kuwait.

Invasion of Kuwait
The Invasion of Kuwait, also known as the Iraq-Kuwait War, was a major conflict between the Republic of Iraq and the State of Kuwait which resulted in the seven-month long Iraqi occupation of Kuwait which subsequently led to direct military intervention by United States-led forces. As some Iraqi sources indicate, Saddam Hussein's decision to attack Kuwait was made only a few months before the actual invasion[4] suggesting that the regime was under feelings of severe time pressure. The invasion started on August 2, 1990 and within two days of intense combat, most of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces were either overrun by the Iraqi Republican Guard or escaped to neighboring Saudi Arabia.
Iraq Invades Kuwait
1990: "Iraq invades Kuwait: "More than 100,000 Iraqi soldiers backed up by 700 tanks invaded the Gulf state of Kuwait in the early hours of this morning. Iraqi forces have established a provisional government and their leader Saddam Hussein has threatened to turn Kuwait city into a "graveyard" if any other country dares to challenge the "take-over by force". Iraqi jets have bombed targets in the capital and special forces have landed at the defence ministry and at the Emir's palace. Road blocks are in place and there are reports of looting in the city's shops. Initial reports suggest up to 200 people have been killed in heavy gunfire around the city. It is reported that the younger brother of Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Sabah has been killed whilst trying to defend the palace, while the Emir himself has escaped to Saudi Arabia. All communication has been cut with Kuwait and many people, including thousands of foreign nationals, are trapped in the city. 'Absolutely unacceptable' The invasion has sparked strong condemnation from leaders around the world. The United Nations Security Council, in emergency session, has called for the "immediate and unconditional" withdrawal of Iraqi forces from Kuwait. British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, branded the invasion as "absolutely unacceptable" while American president George Bush condemned the attack as "a naked act of aggression." So far there has been no condemnation of the attack from any Arab country. Kuwait's assets in the UK and the US have been frozen to prevent Iraq from seizing them and the US has also frozen Iraq's assets. The Soviet Union, Iraq's main supplier of arms, has suspended the delivery of all military equipment to Iraq. In recent weeks Iraq had accused Kuwait of flooding the world market with oil and has demanded compensation for oil produced from a disputed oil field on the border of the two countries. In response to the news of the invasion the price of oil rose dramatically and stock markets around the world have fallen. Kuwait has appealed for international aid but there is no suggestion of any military action from the West at this stage."

Part 1 - Operation Desert Storm "The Persian Gulf War"
The Persian Gulf War or Gulf War (also known as the mother of all battles August 1990 28 February 1991)[7][8] was a conflict between Iraq and a coalition force from 34 nations[9] authorized by the United Nations (UN) but led primarily by the United States and the United Kingdom in order to return Kuwait to the control of the Emir of Kuwait. The conflict developed in the context of the IranIraq War and in 1990 Iraq accused Kuwait of stealing Iraq's oil through slant drilling.[10] The invasion of Kuwait by Iraqi troops was met with immediate economic sanctions against Iraq by some members of the UN Security Council, and with immediate preparation for war by the United States of America and the United Kingdom. The expulsion of Iraqi troops from Kuwait began in January 1991 and was a decisive victory for the coalition forces, which took over Kuwait and entered Iraqi territory. Aerial and ground combat was confined to Iraq, Kuwait, and bordering areas of Saudi Arabia. Iraq also launched missiles against targets in Saudi Arabia and Israel in retaliation for their support of the invading forces in Kuwait. Since the IranIraq War of 198088 had been called the "Persian Gulf War" by many news sources, the 1991 war has sometimes been called the "Second Persian Gulf War", but more commonly, the 1991 war is styled simply the "Gulf War" or the "First Gulf War", in distinction from the 2003 invasion of Iraq.[11] "Operation Desert Storm" was the coalition name of the air and land operations and is often used to refer to the conflict.
Liberation of Kuwait
I was mainly responsible for coding in the Desert Combat Dev Team, and when I started mapping in Summer 2003, not everyone was delighted and it also made some of our mappers look pale because the map I created was like anything anyone had ever seen before in any Bf42 Mod ... Problems however seemed monumental and support was minimal as we had more important things to do. So this one of a kind map never made it beyond alpha status. R.I.P. Liberation of Kuwait (Do not contact me asking to release the map in any way, this is NOT possible.)
