Designing Proportional Projects
Proportion can make the difference between an ugly woodworking project and a great one. Pleasing proportion goes way back to the Ancient Greeks, and in this video, you'll learn how to apply the proportional "Golden Mean" to project design.

Right Ratio of Rest (Pt 3): Rational Numbers
In the third segment of the Right Ratio of Rest: Proportional Reasoning, Jennifer Pulley explains three types of rational numbers: Fractions, Decimals and Percents. Jennifer also describes ratios and proportions. In the third segment students at Cole Middle School conduct an activity in which they record and graph sleep data in different ways. The third segment ends with an inquiry based question posed by Derek Wang comparing time on Earth to time on Neptune.

Watch Video on Unit Rate - Pre Algebra Help
Access full lesson containing this video at: http://www.yourteacher.com/prealgebra/unitrate.php Students learn that a rate is a comparison of two measurements or amounts that have different units. For example, 60 miles in 2 hours is a rate. Students learn that a unit rate is a rate in which the second rate is 1 unit. For example, 30 miles in 1 hour, or 30 miles per hour, is a unit rate. In the problems in this lesson, students are given a rate, and are asked to find the corresponding unit rate. For example, if there are 70 students in 5 classes, find the number of students per class. To find the unit rate, divide the numerator and denominator of the given rate by the denominator of the given rate. So in this case, divide the numerator and denominator of 70/5 by 5, to get 14/1, or 14 students per class, which is the unit rate.
Watch Video on Motion Word Problems - Rate Time Distance
Access full lesson containing this video at: http://www.yourteacher.com/algebra1/motionproblems.php Students learn to solve introductory "motion" word problems -- for example, cars traveling in opposite directions, bikers traveling toward each other, or one plane overtaking another. Students should first draw a diagram to represent the relationship between the distances involved in the problem, then set up a chart based on the formula rate times time = distance. The chart is then used to set up the equation.

Right Ratio of Rest (Pt 1): Sleep & The Circadian Clock
In the first segment of the Right Ratio of Rest: Proportional Reasoning, Lynn Swann gives a summary of the entire video. Next Jennifer Pulley explains to the circadian clock to R. J. and how sleep in space differs from sleep on Earth. The first segment ends with a inquiry based question about Norbert and Zot as they encounter light dark cycles on other planets.
