 | Kolya's Nightmare, Russian Language An Oscar-Film Documentary about last interview made to Kolya Deverenko, a very good friend of Alexei and son of Dr. Deverenko, the Imperial Family doctor. This video is just a teaser of a documentary filmed from April to May 2003 in Brazil. The author visited Kolya Derevenko at his home and interviewed him about his memories of the Tsarevich Alexei, whom he met through his father, Vladimir Derevenko a family doctor to the Romanov family for many years. Kolya now senile, almost blind, reluctantly accepts the reporter's interview, who with very much difficulty managed to extract answers from Kolya about his days spent with Alexei and what he remembers after that fatal night in July 18 1918. Alexei painfully tells about how he became Alexei's best friend and the days he was able to visit him when the royal family was under arrest, first at Alexander Palace and later on in Tobolsk. How he followed his father to Ekaterinburg and stayed at the Popov House across from the Ipatiev House "The House of Special Purpose" but not allowed to visit him. Then Kolya remembered one day the last week of July 1918 when his father came to the Popov House and took him to the Ipatiev House together with Gilliard and Gibbes and entered without knowing what had happened there. Kolya saw everything in disarray, things thrown to the floor but no one there, he suddenly found Alexei's last letter to him but never delivered and something hit him, something terrible had happened to Leskela as he used to call Alexei. He turned to his father and asked him where was Leskela but his father remained silent. Then he found Leonid Sednev at the door crying louder and louder. Then Kolya understood everything and turning toward his father said "Papa, where is my Leskela?" and crying now said "They killed him! How How?!" Finally his father answered, "They killed the Tsar, the Tsarina and the Grand Duchesses also. All are dead." 'I don't understand', 'Where... Where are their bodies' 'We don't know, maybe we'll never discover them' My world was destroyed. They destroyed Russia; I had no more hopes... I found Leskela's last letter written to me. Especially one sentence in that letter made me cry so much - 'I hug you warmly'. So I though 'and I hug you warmly too, my dear friend, and my Tsar...' I was in shock. All these years, I think just about him. 'Why did they kill you? Wasn't there a little space in the Soviet Union for my Leskela... We'll be friends forever, my dear Tsesarevich... I want to see you just one more time, and then I can die in peace... No long after this interview Kolya died in company of his wife in a small town in Brazil. The author of this documentary tried to have the film aired but the big media companies were not interested. At the end the author put the rights of the film for sale. |
