Steam Train Sounds & Photos 40's & 50's
Original recordings and photos of steam locomotives from the 40's and 50's. My late father, Harold Spicer, was a newspaper photographer for the Baltimore News Post from 1939 to 1972. His passion was steam locomotives and he loved to record and photograph them. I have remastered his recordings onto Audio CD and gathered together his wonderful collection of photos, making them available to collectors and enthusiasts. Rumely Engine rescued from James River
This is one of a pair of Rumely engines that was recovered from the James River near Richmond, VA. The engines were used to pump water from some reclaimed land, and had been unused for many years. After the river overtopped the levee, the engines were rescued and restored to running condition. This one was running at the Somerset Pasture Party in Somerset, VA on 29 August 2008. The other engine was also there, but was not set up to run.
