![]() | Eating Out (2004) - Movie Trailer The fastest way to a girl's heart is through her gay best friend. Caleb (Scott Lunsford), a hunky poli-sci major fresh off a breakup with the aggressive Tiffany, is shocked when his gay roommate, Kyle (American Idol's Jim Verraros), lets him in on a little secret: Gay men can get any girl they want. Armed with this tasty tidbit of knowledge, Caleb agrees to a plan hatched by Kyle, and finds himself pretending to be gay to woo Gwen (Emily Stiles), a smart-mouthed cutie with a penchant for boys who like boys. Soon Caleb realizes his plan is not as simple as he first thought. . . . At Gwen's urging, he finds himself roped into "eating out" with her hunky roommate Marc (Desperate Housewives' Ryan Carnes)—who is, naturally, the object of Kyle's affection. ![]() | The Gayest scenes ever in a non-gay TV movie: Silence of the Heart (1984) A few people (two actually) have called the title misleading or inaccurate. Well, if you disagree, give another non-gay TV movie that has even more homoerotic scenes. Don't forget, it has to be non-gay and MADE-FOR-TV. I'm a TV archivist (see my profile) so I'm always willing to learn. Although Silence of the Heart was a 1984 TV movie about teen suicide and guilt (see links at the bottom), these 3 excerpts make it seem like a after school special about being gay. The homoerotic undertones are unmistakable. In fact, they could have easily come from 80's gay porn, i.e. William Higgins classic videos. Not that I know anything about gay porn, mind you! ☺ As for the tight short shorts, they weren't particularly gay since all males wore such shorts in the 80's. If you saw those shorts today, however, they would likely be on a gay (or European?) man. First, notice the unnecessary homoeroticism in the opening gym scene. All set to The Pointer Sisters' "Jump" (whose music video featured scantily clad male athletes jumping). 0:38 - Talk about sexually provocative camera angles: A guy squatting with that metal thing in between his legs 1:00 - and this scene with Charlie Sheen spotting Chad Lowe could have easily come from gay porn 1:22 - another gratuitously homoerotic shot. Seriously, was it necessary to have Lowe's face beneath Sheen's crotch? And the camera aimed at Lowe's crotch? 1:33 - And wassup with that huge "PRIDE" on the wall? "Pride" is one of the most important words in gay activism. When was the last time you saw that in a mainstream gym? 1:42 - an unnecessary locker room scene means more gratuitous male semi-nudity 2:44 - And although we don't get a gym shower scene, they make up for it with this pool scene. Why the hell are the three guys begging Lowe to get in the pool? 3:03 - And when was the last time a straight teen strip teased for his straight male buddies? And damn, Lowe does it so well! 3:15 - you kids may not know this but in the 80's, guys wore briefs not boxers 3:34 - playing pool in a towel is kinda provocative, especially with that pole in the hand. Not to mention that your buddy was just dressing in front of you without any underwear (since it was soaked) 4:14 - "if you were gonna do it, would you tell anybody?" Although they're talking about suicide, the innuendos could have been about gay sex. Note how Lowe is looking down at Sheen's body In conclusion, I think the homoeroticism was no coincidence. The director or writers clearly had an agenda, whether intentional or unconscious. GAY CONNECTIONS/COINCIDENCES: - Chad Lowe later won an Emmy for his groundbreaking portrayal as a [straight] teen dying of AIDS - Lowe later starred in the gay movie, Floating - Chad Lowe is also the name of a gay porn star - Brother Rob Lowe has occasionally rumored to be gay - Ex-wife Hilary Swank won an Oscar for playing a transgender teen in Boys Don't Cry - Swank was a big supporter gay groups, and the couple was seen at many gay/AIDS events - Charlie Sheen's father is Martin Sheen, who starred as one half of a gay couple in the landmark 1972 (!!!) TV movie That Certain Summer. - Martin Sheen later starred as the homophobic father of a gay son in another landmark TV movie, Consenting Adult (1985). - Charlie Sheen currently stars in Two and a Half Men, which uses a lot of gay humor. Sheen's character's ex-sister-in-law is a lesbian and his mother dabbled in lesbianism ========= Links to description of the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088115/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence_of_the_Heart |
