Rookery at High Island Texas

Title:
Rookery at High Island Texas

Description:
This is a wide shot of part of the Rookery at the Houston Audubon Society sanctuary at High Island, Texas. There were lots more trees before Hurrican Rita in 2005, but the birds seem just as happy to build their nests in dead trees as live ones. The pond is less than a mile from the Gulf of Mexico, so it got the full effect of the hurricane.

Island Snow - Port Aransas - Christmas 2004
On Christmas Eve 2004, it began to snow. Snow, here on our tiny south Texas island home. It had been over 50 years since we had had more than even a trace of snow and we had about 5" in a twelve hour period. And to top it off, a white Christmas was way too hard to believe. Oddly enough, non islanders complained about something that we natives took as a miracle. My background music is 'Winter Holiday' performed by the Port Aransas high school band.
