Description:
We saw several funnels today. I counted one in Iowa near Algona, then we went north and saw 4 more funnels and one tornado. Two of the funnels may have been tornadoes, one of which we never got stills or video of.

Tornado near Alden, MN 06-21-09 - Twistersisters Video Footage
Peggy Willenberg and I (Melanie Metz) captured this tornado video near Wells, MN on 6-21-09 at ~ 8:30 pm. Mid-afternoon we headed towards the IA/MN border to chase any cells going up along the warm front and ended up on this tornadic cell. Brad Nelson, his wife marylynn and reporter Scott Schneweis from METRO magazine were along for the chase! This tornado was a needle in the haystack! Luckily it was small and out in the fied so no homes were damaged and no one was injured.

The storms this day were not all that impressive but, due to the high low level shear, the storms were able to produce numerous funnels as well as a few tornadoes across IA and southern MN. As seen in the video, we witnessed 4 funnels as well as a long, slender, ropey tornado that persisted for a few minutes. All in all, a surprisingly good day for how the storms looked in person and on the radar. The storms themselves had very little lightning and no hail due to the lower cloud tops. Nearly ...

This is the beginning of a fairly large tornado. You can clearly see the funnel cloud around it. It's beautiful.
Tornado near Dike, IA on June 21, 2009
The video is from HWY 20 I mile West of Dike. I'm shooting to the Southeast on the South side of HWY 20. The tornado re-developed after crossing HWY 20 to cause damage to a hog confinement building West of Dike. The tornado became rain wrapped when re-developed on the North side of HWY 20. Tornadoes started near Woodriver and ended just west of Aurora, Nebraska. Designated an EF2. Barn in video completely destroyed, farm house seriously damaged. Family in basement uninjured. Power lines and businesses damaged, freight train box cars overturned.
