it reminds me of the adventure i had one time in nyc.

it was december 30th a few years ago and i had gotten stuck with my friend, JK, working that day.  it was a shmuck kind of day - we walked around the empty store running random errands, straightening out books on the shelves (it was a bookstore) and re-filling the plastic bags at all the cash counters. 

we were trying to decide what were going to do for new years - heading to nathan phillips square (downtown city hall) in toronto was the best item on our list thus far.  it was then she said, "let's go to new york city and go to times square" a nonchalant, random, manner.  "shutup, don't joke, you know i'll do it," i replied and didn't even look up.

of all hair brained schemes we ever came up with - this one was def. the best.

minutes later, we had bought 2 tickets at $120/each/return from BUF to LGA and 6 hours later at 8 or 9pm, were in the car heading to the airport at buffalo, NY for our flight the next mornign at 5am. 

we slept in the booths of a roped off restaurant at buffalo airport with our small MEC backpacks (all we carried!) and were in nyc later that morning at 7am on dec 31st to return to LGA for our flight home at 10am on jan 1st.

we did it all in 24 hours - shopping, rode the ferris wheel at toys r us, posed with the naked cowboy, times square, went skating in central park, saw all the "usual" tourist attractions, shopping along 5th avenue, disney store, fao schwartz, took a picture by the "LOVE" monument - and the like.  hit times square for new years - it was so packed and we had to sneak by the police who had barricades up and searches.  sat at an all-night university chinese restaurant that served new york style cheesecake to kill time before we got back on the subway to head back to LGA.

last minute trips = always a good idea!
