The 'Yurungkash' or 'White Jade River', also spelt ''Yurungkax'' (
Chinese: 白玉河;
pinyin: Báiyù Hé), is a river in the
Taklamakan Desert of
Central Asia.
The head waters of the river originate in the
Aksai Chin area in northeastern
Ladakh in
Kashmir. This river flows north through the
Khotan (Hotan) region, from the
Kunlun Mountains before eventually drying up in the desert sands. The river gets its name from the white
jade that is often found in its
alluvial deposits.
