Notice the golden ball on top of the church tower, there are actually a few seats inside . People would climb a small ladder and sit inside.(easily pleased back then:-) This was stopped and deemed unsafe because of the age of the structure. I remember my dad telling me he had been inside it when he was young. The outside is covered in pure gold leaf. |
![]() | HAUNTED CEMETERY-GHASTLY SOUNDS GHOST HUNTING BY INFRARED TURN UP YOUR SOUND ON 1ST PART OF NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY The Otterbein Cemetery is said to be haunted by several ghosts including figures that pop up and vanish. The ghost of a young calm man has been seen standing by the Walnut Street entrance to the graveyard. He seems to watch visitors approach, but then disappears before people can speak to him. A house across from the cemetery is haunted by a friendly ghost-that of a beloved grandmother. People see shadowy human figures that suddenly vanish. The most haunted part is the cemetery's largest mausoleums. A dark shadowy shape is most often seen here. Another ghost is said to enter a sleeper's dreams and take them to this cemetery. The cemetery was investigated during several nights using an infrared camera. On one night ghastly sounds could be heard, although they were faint. I didn't try to figure out what the sound was. There is a dark, steep, thickly wooded ravine on the west side, where even by daylight a person can tumble down the long Alum Creek River bank and catch poison ivy, so I didn't go looking. The sound was faint and some distance away. At first I thought it was a screech owl, but after replaying screech owl sounds, I'm not too sure, because the screech owl sound contains trailing trilling or wavering notes and this sounded more like screaming. When I heard the sounds in real life, they were faint and I was surprised that the camcorder picked them up. I heard sounds at approximately: +1:52, 1:56, 2:00 +2:04 2:08 +2:18 2:22 +2.26 +2:28 and +2:34 on this video (the ones with a + in front seemed louder.) At 2:04 I said, "You can definitely hear a spooky sound" and paused between the words "hear" and "a" for the sound. The timing of the sounds did not seem to be that of a standard police, emergency, or fire siren. Another interesting sound was a quiet roar, while I was filming the inside of the mausoleum in the dark. A few streaks flitted across the video. An s-shaped thing turns into a swirl at around 3:02/4:58. I, of course, don't know what a ghost looks like in infrared, but maybe I'll figure out how to look for them after I film some more. The last part of the video shows a ride through the cemetery on a foggy night. Otterbein College was founded as the Otterbein University of Ohio in 1847 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and was named after a church co-founder, Philip Otterbein, a participant with Martin Boehm in the "Great Meeting" that took place in the Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania historical markers say it was during the "Great Meeting" that the first American-born religious denominations began--the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and the United Methodist Church. Otterbein was noted for its abolitionist stand. Otterbein's Benjamin Hanby, who is buried in the graveyard, was the songwriter who composed "Darling Nelly Gray" and the Christmas carol, "Up on the House Top," among other well-known songs. The graveyard is located by Alum Creek along an Underground Railroad route, which continued on to Africa and Mt. Vernon, Ohio. This route was also notable for its relationship to Dan Emmett, who wrote "Dixie" among other classics, and lived in Mr. Vernon. The mausoleum was built in 1923. Its interior was constructed of beautiful Vermont marble and its exterior is composed of Bedford Stone. It has seven cathedral styled stained glass windows that contain symbols of the seven major world religions. Its stained glass windows are very beautiful, but don't show up well from the outside. ***Part of a Series To Be Continued*** More investigation will be conducted on this and other cemeteries. If anyone knows what a ghost filmed in infrared looks like, please let me know. |
![]() | The National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam was born in the village of Churulia in the Burdwan District of Bengal (now located in the Indian state of West Bengal).[2] He was born in a Muslim family who is second of three sons and a daughter, Nazrul's father was the imam and caretaker of the local mosque and mausoleum. Nazrul's mother was Zaheda Khatun. Nazrul had two brothers, Kazi Shahebjan and Kazi Ali Hussain, and a sister, Umme Kulsum. Nicknamed Dukhu Mia (Sad Man), Nazrul began attending the maktab — the local religious school run by the mosque — where he studied the Qur'an and other scriptures, Islamic philosophy and theology. His family was devastated with the death of his father in 1908. At the young age of ten, Nazrul began working in his father's place as a caretaker to support his family, as well as assisting teachers in school. He later became the muezzin at the mosque, leading the community prayers.[3][4] Attracted to folk theatre, Nazrul joined a leto (travelling theatrical group) run by his uncle Bazle Karim. Working and travelling with them, learning acting, as well as writing songs and poems for the plays and musicals.[2] Through his work and experiences, Nazrul began learning Bengali and Sanskrit literature, as well as Hindu scriptures such as the Puranas. The young poet composed a number of folk plays for his group, which included "Chasar San" ("The story of a Farmer"), "Shakunibadh" ("The Killing of a Vulture"), "Raja Yudhisthirer San" ("The story of King Yudhisthir"), "Data Karna" ("Philanthropic Karna"), "Akbar Badshah" ("Emperor Akbar"), "Kavi Kalidas" ("Poet Kalidas"), "Vidyabhutum" ("The Learned Owl"), "Rajputrer San" ("The story of a Prince"), "Buda Saliker Ghade Ron" ("Battered Old Bird") and "Meghnad Badh" ("The Killing of Meghnad").[3] In 1910, Nazrul left the troupe and enrolled at the Raniganj Searsole Raj School, and later transferred to the Mathrun High English School, studying under the headmaster and poet Kumudranjan Mallik. Unable to continue paying his school fees, Nazrul left the school and joined a group of "kaviyals". Later he took jobs as a cook at the house of a Christian railway guard and at a bakery and tea stall in the town of Asansol. In 1914, Nazrul joined the Darirampur School (now Nazrul University) in Trishal, Mymensingh District. Amongst other subjects, Nazrul studied Bengali, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian literature and classical music under teachers who were impressed by his dedication and skill.[3] Studying up to Class X, Nazrul did not appear for the matriculation pre-test examination, enlisting instead in the Indian Army in 1917 at the age of eighteen. He joined the British army mainly for two reasons: first, his youthful romantic inclination to respond to the unknown and, secondly, the call of politics[5]. Attached to the 49th Bengal Regiment, he was posted to the cantonment in Karachi, where he wrote his first prose and poetry. Although he never saw active fighting, he rose in rank from corporal to havildar, and served as quartermaster for his battalion.[3] During this period, Nazrul read extensively, and was deeply influenced by Rabindranath Tagore and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, as well as the Persian poets Hafez, Rumi and Omar Khayyam. He learnt Persian poetry from the regiment's Punjabi moulvi, practiced music and pursued his literary interests. His first prose work, "Baunduler Atmakahini" ("Life of a Vagabond") was published in May, 1919. His poem "Mukti" ("Freedom") was published by the "Bangla Mussalman Sahitya Patrika" ("Bengali Muslim Literary Journal") in July 1919. |
![]() | Classic Shooters - The Catacomb Abyss Title: Catacomb Abyss Developer: id Software Platform: DOS Year: 1992 Description: The Catacomb Abyss is one of the first ever first-person shooters. It's based on an early id Software raycasting engine, similar to the one used in Wolfenstein 3D (which came months afterwards) but in 16 colors. You play the role of a magician, who is once again called upon by the townspeople to defeat his ancient arch rival Nemesis. After having defeated Nemesis in the past, his minions have erected a huge mausoleum in his honor, and as a result the townspeople are forced to live under a rule of horror. You must once again venture into the catacombs, defeat Nemesis and free the townspeople. Notes: I used to love this game when I was really young. I think the fact that its so hard to move around just made it scarier. |

![]() | Non-Anime Possibility It's finally done! 6 days of hard work has finally paid off! This IS the best amv that I have made thus far and I'm so proud of it. But I know that there could be mistakes or imperfect scene choices that other people can see that I probably couldn't with my biased eyes. So plz critique it and possibly make some suggestions to what I can do to make this amv better. I'm sorry Mars Volta fans; I only have videos of Cedric back whenever ATDI still existed. I tried my best to sync the footage of him from "Sleepwalk Capsules" to fit that part of the song. *********** Songs Used: Intro Song - Inertiatic ESP Artist - The Mars Volta AMV Song - Non-Zero Possibility Artist - At the Drive In Outro/Credits Song - Weather the Storm Artist - Sparta I think this is the only amv that uses music from these three interconnected bands. The Mars Volta and Sparta are splinter bands that came about whenever At the Drive In broke up and I love both of them although sparta is now defunct. Non-Zero Possibility is a very depressing and dark song. It has many meanings, one being about the experiences of a fetus that has it's life cut short by abortion, (although I do support it) or about the mechanization of humanity or about the inherent inequality of people that stems from the time they are born. So I tried to pick scenes that can convey these emotional messages effectively without being too political about it. *********** The Lyrics: i'm just tired of counting bodies is this mausoleum tardy let's just paint you a pretty face flies dip tongues into tear ducts in toothpicks fought unborn contusion is hungry they still eat their young proto-culture null and void all veins in highway laps this breath collapsed again this hex was delivered spent orchestra influenza drawn and quartered pets it dwells and grows this is the pocket-sized edition rapid sleep through benediction let's just paint you a pretty face museums mark their bodies down and the tenants found all the distance in their prefix contusion is hungry they still eat their young proto-culture null and void all veins in highway laps this breath collapsed again this hex was delivered spent orchestra influenza drawn and quartered pets it dwells and grows fever bliss into central nervousness bitten on the entrance i was bitten on the entrance (2x) bitten on the entrance i was bitten on the entrance bitten on the entrance bitten ************** Anime Used In Order of Appearance: 22 Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Fate/Stay Night, School Days, Blood Plus (Blood+), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied, Gunslinger Girl, Samurai Champloo, Gundam Wing, Kara no Kyoukai, Bleach, Chobits, Akira (AKIRA the Movie), Claymore, 5 cm per Second, Kimi Ga Nozumu Eien (Rumbling Heart's), Eien no Aseria (The Spirit of Eternity Sword), Berserk, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Hellsing Ultimate OVA. |
![]() | A miracle under Imam Hussein (p) dome, happened on 28 Nov , People witnessed on Sunday 28 November, 2004, a miracle of grandson of holy Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah (p), Chief of Martyrs Al-Imam Al-Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib (p), in favor of a young renowned Husseini dirge-chanter Ghassan Al-Karbalayi. According to details, Ghassan Al-Karbalayi, born in Baghdad, had been serving the Husseini pulpit in Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria and many other countries until the day he faced a road accident two years ago at a road from Tehran to Isfahan while returning from Kuwait after observing and reciting dirges there to mark Arbaeen Al-Husseini, or the 40th day after the martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p). As a result of this accident, Al-Karbalayi lost his memory. After six months he was relieved of it, but his health continued deteriorating and he remained dumb and paralyzed until Sunday 28 November, 2004 when for the first time after two years he was able to stand on his feet, then he walked and spoke. Al-Karbalayi's father told that they came here from Iran to perform zyarah and offer dua at the holy mausoleum of Al-Imam Abi Abdellahil Hussein (p) after they were barred for several years from this due to Saddam regime which forced his family to migrate from their own country -- Iraq -. He said when we entered the holy compound and therefrom the holy mausoleum, my son Ghassan asked me through gestures to leave him pulling himself on his knees and hands until he himself reaches to the zarih (tomb) of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) and asks Allah to heal him for the sake of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p). Our tears were flowing with our each step towards the holy zarih. And Husseini miracle appeared when Ghassan asked me through gesture to help him in standing on his feet after he informed me through gesture that he is feeling a heat running towards his feet and then to his other body parts. I did what Ghassan asked me to do. When he stood up, suddenly I found him speaking to me: "Leave me to stand up by myself," and more than this that he took steps. I could not control myself seeing all this miracle, and unconsciously ran towards the holy compound telling everyone in loud voice with great happiness all what happened to my son praising Allah and invoking His blessings on the Holy Prophet (p) and his Ahlil Bayt (pure progeny (p)). When Ghassan Al-Karbalayi was asked: "Did you know what would happen to you if you would achieve an honor of visiting Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) after a long time?" He replied: "Yeah, I had seen all this in dream before reaching in the holy city of Karbala, and as if it was promised from Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) to his servants that they will succeed with his special favor and kindness in this world and the hereafter. And what happened to me is the biggest proof of Ahlul Bayt (p)'s high status and the greatest reply to those who disbelieve Ahlul Bayt (p)'s supremacy and their miracles." He further told that the physicians treating me had many a time asked my father to donate my body parts as they were disappointed of my recovery and had declared me dead. But by the grace of Allah and favour of this great Imam (p) I can move now, see and speak as if nothing had happened to me. Replying to this query "what was the first deed you performed soon after your healing?", he said: "I came out of the holy mausoleum and my sight focused on a pulpit. I went to it immediately, people gathered around me and I started reciting Husseini dirges while weeping. People were also weeping." One of companions of Ghassan Al-Karbalayi in his travel to Holy Karbala told that when they were about to begin their journey, some of their friends and neighbors came there to see them off. One of them was a Christian man, when he came to know their intention he said 'if you would achieve this miracle from Al-Hussein (p), I will announce my Islam." |
![]() | Spring Grove Cemetery-Acoustic Alchemy Some recent photos I shot in Spring Grove Cemetery And Arboretum set to the music of Acoustic Alchemy. Opened in 1845, artists take their easels to this beautiful resting place. Young lovers lie on the grass beside one of its 14 lakes. In addition to being a cemetery and park, it's a world-class arboretum/botanical garden and nature preserve, with at least one of every tree native to the area. There are also tens of thousands of spectacular monuments, statues, obelisks and mausoleums. Thirty-seven Civil War generals are buried here, Salmon Chase who was Secretary of the Treasury under Abraham Lincoln plus the parents of Ulysses S. Grant. Spring Grove Cemetery is HUGE at 733 acres! There are 300 acres out of the 733 that are still undeveloped to allow for future growth. The cemetery is absolutely gorgeous...it also serves as an arboretum and park. There are several prizewinning trees in the arboretum, and many centenarians (trees that are 100 years or older). The arboretum also provides a nice home to local wildlife. There are lots of birds, chipmunks, squirrels, among other animals. The architecture found there is spectacular. Miniature replicas of Notre Dame Cathedral, The Parthenon and The Great Sphinx Of Giza are most notable. On March 29, 2007, the cemetery was designated a National Historic Landmark. ![]() | ATATÜRK - A GREAT LEADER Rare footages of Atatürk´s life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns_q-JChxR0&feature=related Biography for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Date of Birth 1881, Salonica, Ottoman Empire Date of Death 10 November 1938, Istanbul, Turkey (liver cirrhosis) Nickname Buyuk Onder Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ata Height 5' 8½" (1.74 m) Spouse Lâtife Usakligil (23 April 1923 - 5 August 1925) (divorced) Trade Mark The massive reforms he enacted during his tenure as President of Turkey His personality cult Trivia He enforced the new Turkish alphabet in 1928. It was one of the biggest changes in any alphabet (Turkish was previously written in Arab script, know as Ottoman). The letter o-umlaut allegedly came from Swedish, u-umlaut from German, s-cedilla from Romanian, c-cedilla from French, and the g-breve was introduced with the new alphabet. On November 10, all Turkish flags are at half-mast, as Ataturk died on that day. He is buried in Ankara, in Kemal Ataturk Mausoleum. He is still loved by many Turks almost seventy years after he died, and over one-hundred-and-twenty years since he was born. Mother, Zubeyde Hanim (born 1862; died 1923). His relationship with her turned sour after she married again (his father died when young Ataturk was seven). He was known to be rude to her and his step-father. They lost touch with each other. Zubeyde was commemorated on a stamp marking Mother's Day in 1956. Had a fondness of raki, the national drink of Turkey. He was known as hard-worker. This contributed to his death in 1937. Ismet Inonu, his successor, gave him a posthumous personality cult. It still remains despite his party's disappearance from Turkey's political map. |
![]() | A Measure Of Understanding Queen Frederica of the Hellenes A measure of understanding Queen Frederica of the Hellenes. A true blue aristocrat. The granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Princess of Hanover, Duchess of Brunswick and Lunenburg. She was the mother of ex-King Constantine II. The Queen, the Greek left, loves to hate, even today. The clip is based on her 1971 book "A Measure Of Understanding". No Hellenic Queen, was vilified as much as Queen Frederica was. This is her side of the story. For the heroic struggle of tiny Greece against the Axis powers she says: "The spirit of Greece had wings again. Nothing was impossible", when Greece offered the world the first victory against the Axis, chasing the Italians, through Albania in World War II. "Hence you will not say that Greeks fight like heroes but that heroes fight like Greeks." she repeats Sir Winston Churchill's quote. And: "Two world powers against small Greece. What a glory for us and what a shame for others." A young aristocrat, surrounded by communist revolutionaries and palace sycophants well schooled in Byzantine intrigue, she had to be a quick study. She did more than "do in Rome as Romans do " she went out of her way and embraced her adopted country and people. There is a picture, of her and King Paul being literally carried on the shoulders, of ex-communist prisoners in Macronisos, in her book "A measure of understanding" p.114 picture 13 here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14272407@N03/1984639520/ She became Queen, on April 1st 1947, when King George II died, having been recently restored to the throne on September 1, 1946. During the war against the communist insurrection of 1944-1949, the Queen set up 53 child-camps Παιδο(υ)πόλεις, to help orphan and poor children. Alexandra Mela and Lina Tsaldari's Commissioned Ladies organization were also instrumental in locating and caring about the children. She toured Greece during these difficult years, where 10% of the Hellenic population was refugees: "I must have danced in every village square" she said, comment on picture 15. Red Cross and the United Nations estimates 28000 Greek children were abducted by the communists and taken behind the Iron Curtain for "re-education / brainwashing". The Queen personally visited the camps and there are Hellenic Royal records, that prove, 33989 children visited the camps from 1947 until 1964. Queen Frederica worked tirelessly for the cause of Liberty, even offering to carrying this struggle behind the Iron Curtain against the brutal invasion of Hungary by the USSR on November 4, 1956, lobbying relentlessly, for the Hellenic causes, to US Secretary of State General George C. Marshall, Field Marshall Smuts and Sir Winston Churchill even Marshal Tito. Getting political support and desperately needed economic aid for war ravaged Greece. One does not expect the communists, or their sympathizers, to acknowledge, any of her efforts. Her influence on then young ex-King Constantine II, was a motherly protective instinct, rather than her "wanting political power or dominating her family". One should acknowledge ex-King Constantine's mistakes were his and his alone. Constantine was only 27 years old in 1967. The coup leaders were both ruthless and determined to succeed, no matter what. The King needed a good mentor in the Palace, he had none. History, the harshest of judges, will be kinder to Frederica. Her finest hour was during the difficult years 1947-1957, when her travels from Belgrade to India, helped Greece weather the biggest storm in its history, visiting injured soldiers, lobbying ceaselessly for uniting Cyprus with the Motherland. "The prestige of England for us foreigners lies not in the greatness of her Empire, nor has it dwindled yet in the value of a small island, but it lies in the greatness of her spirit" Letter to Sir Winston Churchill 3.4.1957 p.187. "A small Greek island has become the test case. Unimportant as Cyprus is, she is like a mirror within which each nation will see its own soul". Letter to General Marshall 3.29.1956 p.192. In her book she offers no opinion on the Junta. Richard Clogg in his book "A short history of Greece" he describes Frederica as "strong - willed". She clashed with conservative icons Field Marshall Papagos, and Constantine Karamanlis, whom she saw as overstepping their bounds, and they saw her as overstepping her bounds. It is true, her family obeyed a state order, to join the Bund Deutscher Madel organization, of Hitler youth. The people of Greece are fair people. Let this clip be a small step to reevaluating Queen Frederica's contributions to Hellenic history. Queen Frederica of the Hellenes, died in Madrid Spain,on February 6,1981, during cataract surgery, at the age of 64. She is buried in Greece, in the Tatoi mausoleum, next to Palo, her love: "We shall always be together. There is no separation, just a long road." |
