'Wonjong of Goryeo' (1214-1274, r. 1259-1274) was the 24th ruler of the
Goryeo dynasty of
Korea. His reign saw the country conquered by the Mongol armies of the
Yuan Dynasty.
He was also the last Korean ruler to use the title "emperor" before brief restoration of the title in late 19th century under the
Korean Empire, as the Korean rulers henceforth were demoted to "kings" following the Mongol conquest.
Wonjong was the eldest son of the previous emperor,
Gojong.
