Fictional character biography

Whitey Durham has been the coach of the Ravens for many years and was married but his wife died on the operation table, leaving him with no child. He has since been considering the Ravens as more or less his children, especially Lucas Scott and Jake Jagielski. He was also a very good friend of Keith Scott who was also a former player of his.
Season 1

He was the one to give his chance to Lucas Scott after several Ravens were kicked off the team for drunk driving, when Keith showed him his nephew playing at River court. That year his team never lost a game, but at the end of the season he had to have an operation because of an eye condition and temporarily left the team. Dan Scott replaced him and chose to let a harmed Lucas play which led to the Ravens losing the game and Whitey his chance to be champion for once.
Season 2

Although the basketball season was over in season 2, Whitey kept an eye on his players during season 2 and served as a Yoda type person for anyone who needed his advice. For instance helping Jake get Jenny away from Nikki. He was also helped by some, as Lucas convinced him to have the operation he needed to save his life.
Season 3

In season 3 he tried to patch things up between Nathan, Haley and Lucas because of the rift that had been created during season 2. He also punished his players for making a largely disappointing start to the season by making them play in an abandoned court, thinking they were no longer worthy of the former one. He helped Lucas and Karen with their grief after Keith's death and tried to keep Dan away from everyone he had hurt.
Season 4

In season 4 he welcomes Skills Taylor into the team after Lucas plays him the same trick Keith played to him to make him get Lucas on board. He also won the championship, captaining the Ravens to victory and overcoming a past defeat that lingered with him for nineteen years. In trying to help Nathan find a college, he accepts a job as a collegiate coach in one of the final episodes of Season four so that Nathan can be a member of his team.

★ The name Whitey comes from a game with a black team when one of the players said "I pick Whitey" (the white one)

★ Since he had his time capsule 50 years before the main characters he is 50 years older than them, meaning he is 68.
