WAWEL CATHEDRAL
'Wawel Cathedral' – the 'Cathedral Basilica of Sts. StanisÅ‚aw and Vaclav' – is Poland's national sanctuary in the city of Kraków. It has a 1,000-year history and was the traditional coronation site of Polish monarchs. It is the cathedral, and thus the mother church, of the Archdiocese of Kraków. Pope John Paul II had considered being buried there.

Chapels and burial chambers
Wawel Cathedral.
Silver relic coffin of St. Stanisław created between 1669-1671 after the previous one (established in 1512 by King Sigismund the Old) was stolen by the Sweds in 1655 [1]. The coffin is alocated below the gilded baldachin made in 1626-1629 by Giovanni Battista Trevano and Matteo Castelli.
Sigismund's Chapel
"Sigismund's Chapel" ("''Kaplica Zygmuntowska''") is one of the most notable pieces of architecture in Kraków. Built as a funerary chapel for the last Jagiellons, it has been hailed by many art historians as "the most beautiful example of the Tuscan Renaissance north of the Alps." Financed by King Sigismund I the Old, it was built in 1517-33 by Bartolomeo Berrecci.
A square-based chapel with a golden dome houses the tombs of its founder King Sigismund, as well as King Sigismund II Augustus and Anna Jagiellonka. The inner sculptures, stuccos and paintings were designed by some of the most renowned artists of the age, including the architect Berrecci himself, Georg Pencz, Santi Gucci and Hermann Vischer.
