Union Pacific SD70Ms on Jefferson/Fort Branch Ballast Train
A rare sighting on a branch line where the usual local power consists of a single GP38-2 (such as the third unit, UP 369) are the two UP SD70Ms (UP 4642 and 4088) leading this ballast train. First we see the train creeping across Highway 26 in Watertown and dumping ballast near the crossing. Next we see it cross Main Street near the former C&NW depot in Watertown, now a floral shop. Later in the day at the Milwaukee Street bridge in Johnson Creek, we see the train returning north empty with 4088 in the lead, 369 having been dropped off at Jefferson to do the usual local work. Video by my dad 7/28/2008.

Railfanning Madison With Jim 11/16/2007 Part 1 - "Still Skunkin'"
My dad caught three Wisconsin and Southern Railroad trains in the Madison area in one morning on Friday, November 16. This video covers the first two. First was a short train inbound off the Watertown Sub with cement hoppers from Lycon/LaFarge and loaded scrap gondolas from Samuel's. GP38s WSOR 3808 and 3806 power the train, seen at N. Fair Oaks Avenue. The second train was the daily Madison-Janesville manifest (MAJ). This train was powered by SD20 WSOR 2051, by then the last of its kind in service on the railroad, and SD40-2 WSOR 4007. The train is first seen crossing East Washington Avenue, then passing under the Beltline and crossing Nob Hill Road, and finally crossing the bridge at the marshy north end of Lake Waubesa, paralleling the Beltline on its way toward McFarland. At this point 2051 had a new horn (a 3-chime Leslie) and would remain in WSOR service for only about two more months, before being retired and sitting in Janesville unused until September 2008.
