'State Route 410', formerly 'U.S. Route 410', is a 107.53 mile (173.05 km) highway in southwestern Washington state, USA. It runs from State Route 167 in Sumner east via Mount Rainier National Park (where it crosses Cayuse Pass and Chinook Pass), along the American and Naches Rivers, to U.S. 12 west of Yakima.
The westernmost piece is a freeway bypassing downtown Sumner. From the end of the freeway, SR 410 heads east via Enumclaw and the northeast part of Mt. Rainier National Park to end at U.S. 12. A segment of SR 410 through the Cascade Range is designated an All-American Road, known as Chinook Scenic Byway, or Mather Memorial Parkway.
As US 410, the highway continued west into Tacoma via State Route 167, and then ran southwest on U.S. 99 (now I-5) to Olympia and west on U.S. Route 101, State Route 8 and U.S. 12, ending at US 101 in Aberdeen. It also continued east via what is now US 12 to Lewiston, Idaho.
In late 1967, US 12 was extended west from Lewiston along most of US 410, bypassing Mt. Rainier National Park and Tacoma and Olympia to the south. The part from I-5 in Tacoma east became SR 410; the short section out of Tacoma until Sumner became State Route 167 in 1973. Because of this 1973 truncation, SR 410 begins at milepost 8.84 (and ends at milepost 116.37).
The section of SR 410 from the northeast entrance of Mount Rainier National Park to Morse Creek, 5 miles east of Chinook Pass, is generally closed in winter because of a major avalanche hazard. Snowplows have difficulty keeping up with the heavy snowfall as the summit is at 5,432 ft.
