Plot
An ancient evil demon known as Orochi disrupts time and space, putting all the various heroes of the Three Kingdoms period of China (the setting of ''Dynasty Warriors'') and the Sengoku period of Japan (the setting of ''Samurai Warriors'') together. Orochi then attempts to make them succumb to his power and to test his might against these heroes so that he may reign supreme. Many of these heroes wish to slay Orochi while others assist them.
There is a different story for each of the four forces: Shu, Wei, Wu and Sengoku. There are only 3 characters in each force available in the beginning of the game, as you progress through each of the stories, more characters will be unlocked and become playable in the different modes.

The following battles have resulted in the remaining Shu forces to be captured, and those that have escaped have joined together with other forces and are now being pursued by the remnants of the Wu Army . Meanwhile at Ueda Castle, Zhao Yun is under great despair for not being able to protect Lord Liu Bei when suddenly Zuo Ci, Xing Cai and Shimazu Yoshihiro show up to rescue him and divulge very important news.

Ding Jun.

While Nobunaga is keen to ally with his former enemies to fight against Orochi, Shingen and Kenshin refuse to become allies due to their long rivalry. When Nobunaga, together with his loyal retainers Akechi Mitsuhide and Toyotomi Hideyoshi arrive at Jing to take matters into his own hands, he stumbles upon Guan Ping who was in need of help and decides to save him, they then form an alliance.

79 characters encompass the roster of ''Warriors Orochi'': 48 from Dynasty Warriors, 29 from Samurai Warriors (Including Imagawa Yoshimoto, Kunoichi and Ishikawa Goemon from Samurai Warriors 1 who were left out in Samurai Warriors 2), and two new characters included exclusively for this game: the titular character and primary villain, Orochi (遠呂智), the mythological beast of Yamato; and Daji (妲己), the villainous concubine of King Zhou of Shang from ''Fengshen Yanyi''. Orochi wields a very large scythe, while Daji fights with two floating orbs.
There are many non-playable officers who are also part of the game, all taken from both the Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors games. Additionally, there are exclusive non-playable officers that are under Orochi's forces that have the appearance of demons.
