![]() | Walden's Ridge, TN: narrated by Wanda Hodge America's Most Endangered Mountains - Walden's Ridge, TN Pledge to Help End Mountaintop Removal. Visit: www.iLoveMountains.org - - - COMMUNITY STORY - - - When Wanda Hodge talks of Walden's Ridge, the pride in her voice is unmistakable. She tells of its long and rich history - first home to the Cherokee who hunted and lived in the area and then home to early pioneers who held community gatherings at the nearby Standing Stones. Walden's Ridge continues to be a gathering space today: bikers come to enjoy the winding roads, kayakers, fishermen and local residents enjoy the streams which still run pristine and clear and hang gliders from around the Southeast travel here to take in the scene from above. Wanda and her community have good reason to be proud of what this area still is. Twenty years ago, they banded together and successfully fought coal companies who saw a large profit in mining the Sewannee Coal Seam which runs through Walden's Ridge. This seam is the most toxic acid coal seam in the U.S. and if mined, would release acid mine drainage which turns streams orange and kills all life in the rivers. For Wanda, it's simple: "We don't want our children in east Tennessee to grow up thinking that streams should be orange.' Wanda tells a story of school children in West Virginia who grew up thinking just that: they drew pictures with orange lines to represent the rivers in their community. "How sad that children have to grow up thinking that streams are not clear running pristine beautiful water. It's bad enough that it happened there, we don't want it here." Wanda and her community won a "Lands Unsuitable For Mining" (LUMP) designation for the Rock Creek watershed, which is part of Walden's Ridge, and this has kept the area safe for the past 20 years. But today, the threat has returned and coal companies are working hard to overturn the LUMP designation. If this were overturned the entire area of Walden's Ridge would be open to heavy mining. Citizens in Walden's Ridge are once again preparing to fight, hopeful that their numbers and passion can still outweigh today's coal companies. ![]() | Kościuszko Mound in Kraków, Poland Kościuszko Mound (Kopiec Kościuszki) in Kraków, Poland, erected by Cracovians in commemoration of the Polish national leader Tadeusz Kościuszko, is an artificial mound modeled after Kraków's prehistoric mounds of Krak and Wanda. A serpentine path leads to the top, approx. 326 metres (1,070 ft) above sea level, with a panoramic view of the Vistula River and the city. It was completed in November 1823. The location selected for the monument was the natural Blessed Bronisława Hill (Polish: Wzgórze bł. Bronisławy), also known as Sikornik, situated in the western part of Kraków's Zwierzyniec District. It is one of Kraków's four mounds. The construction was financed by donations from Poles living in all territories of Poland under foreign occupation. For three years beginning in 1820, people of all ages and class voluntarily constructed the Mound to the height of 34 metres (112 ft). Work was supervised by a Committee for the Construction of the Tadeusz Kościuszko Monument. At the base of the Mound the Founding Act was deposited in a glass and marble case. At the top, a granite boulder, brought from the Tatra Mountains was placed, bearing the inscription Kościuszce (To Kościuszko). Inside the mound urns were buried with soil from the Polish and American battlefields where Kościuszko fought. Between 1850 1854 the Austrian authorities built a brick citadel around the Mound and began using it as a strategic lookout. As compensation for an earlier historical church that had been demolished, a neo-Gothic chapel of Blessed Bronisława was also built. However, the Austrian fortifications, including the gateway and the south-western rampart and entrenchment were eventually dismantled following World War II, between 1945 and 1956. Next to the Mound there is a museum devoted to Kościuszko, that displays artifacts and mementoes of his life and achievements. In 1997, heavy rains eroded the Mound, thus threatening its existence. It went through a restoration process from 1999 till 2003 in which state-of-the-art technology and modern materials were used. The Mound was equipped with a drainage system and a new waterproofing membrane. Kościuszko Mound inspired Count Paul Strzelecki, Polish patriot and Australian explorer, to name the highest mountain in Australia Mount Kosciuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kościuszko Mound in Kraków. |

![]() | Brenda Lowe "Look How Far The Lord Has Brought Us" Barack Obama- "From the Pit to the Palace". This song taken from Brenda's "Somebody Somewhere Was Praying For Me" CD tells the story of how the Lord will deliver his people from situations that appear hopeless. From unjust rulers, from slavery and bondage, bringing them to the promised land. It speaks of how he brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, over hills and high mountatins, through the desert, through the Red sea, and eventually to that promised land. It's important to note that what he did for the children of Israel, he continues to do for his people today. As I post this song/video on this election day, NOvember 4, 2008, I can't help but note the parallel with the African-American. It was just a few years ago that we were enslaved, beaten, de-humanized, and murdered just for being black. I can recall the civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King's dream, and that entire struggle for freedom. Even though He didn't move all the obstacles, he provided the strength to overcome. He is showing us today that he is still God, as America has elected it's first African-American President, Barack Obama. What an awesome and mighty God we serve. As some of the saints of old has said, "He has brought us from a mighty long ways". He has brought us from the pit to the palace. So in the midst of this historic event, I thought it appropriate that America take some time and "Look How Far The Lord Has Brought Us". Be thankful unto HIM and bless his name. The CD is available in most stores. It can also be purchased or downloaded online at http://cdbaby.com/cd/brendal. Playthough Walkthrough part 7. This fight was rather fun and among my favorites as the battle quickly changes from ground to air and your hanging on for dear life. I managed to beat this beast with normal tactics and a bit of luck and flukes, though I decided to make a reference to the Prince of Persia by using the time reverse sound effect and reversing the video footage I got and then made it seem like that was in game, lol. Music used as follows: Gerudo Valley (orchestrated) - Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Sound clip - Sands of Time - Prince of Persia Shadow of the Colossus, released in Japan as Wander and the Colossus ワンダと巨像, Wanda to Kyozō, is a Japanese-developed action-adventure video game developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI) for the PlayStation 2. The game was released in North America and Japan in October 2005 and PAL territories in February 2006. The game was created by SCEI's International Production Studio 1, the same development team responsible for the cult hit Ico. The game focuses on a young man named Wander who must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen beings, known as colossi, to restore the life of a girl, Mono. The game is unusual within the action-adventure genre in that there are no towns or dungeons to explore, no characters with which to interact, and no enemies to defeat, other than the colossi. Shadow of the Colossus has been described as a puzzle game, as each colossus' weakness must be identified and exploited before it can be defeated.
