'Vale Royal' is a local government district and borough in Cheshire, North West England. It contains the towns of Northwich, Winsford and Frodsham. It takes its name from Vale Royal Abbey, formerly one of the largest in England, which was situated near the village of Whitegate. Although the abbey no longer exists, the current house on the site contains important fragments of the abbey buildings and is still known as Vale Royal. It is now a golf club and apartments.
The district was created on April 1, 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of Northwich and Winsford urban districts, Northwich Rural District and part of Runcorn Rural District.
