UNION OF RADICAL REPUBLICANS
The 'Union of Radical Republicans' (French: ''Union des républicains radicaux (U2R)'') is a French political group issued from the Radical current of the Republican Pole, a structure rallying together supporters of Jean-Pierre Chevènement's candidacy for the 2002 presidential election. It included members of the Left Radical Party (PRG) as well as Valoisiens Radicals, among whom Emile Zuccarelli, former president of the PRG and Gérard Benhamou, former UDF MEP.
The U2R has since taken its distances with Chevènement's Citizen and Republican Movement (MRC), and supported François Bayrou's candidacy for the April 2007 presidential election. It also participated to the creation of Bayrou's Democratic Movement (MoDem), and presented several candidates for the June 2007 legislative elections.
