Kumamoto Prefecture,
Japan.
The city was founded on January 15, 2005, as a result of the
merger between the
towns of
Misumi and
Shiranuhi from
Uto District and the
towns of
Matsubase,
Ogawa and
Toyono from
Shimomashiki District.
As of January 15,
2005, the city has an estimated
population of 64,365 and the
density of 341 persons per
km². The total area is 188.55 km².
