 | National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangalore, India Unani System of Medicine has a long and impressive record in India. Introduced to India several thousands of years ago, it has not only catered to the medical needs of millions of people, but also has gained an important place amongst the various systems of Medicine. National Institute of Unani Medicine was established in 1984 as an autonomous organisation under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family welfare and registered under the Karnataka Societies Act, 1960. From an humble beginning, NIUM has come a long way with its campus being set up on 55 acres of land. The campus now houses an Administrative Block, Hospital Building, Hostel, Pharmacy, Academic Block and several other units. However, the Academic activities were started in the year 2004 after the admission of the first batch of students. |

 | VISUAL COGNITION FOR ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVE MEDICINAL SYSTEM During the recent years, there have been many interventions from designers and their thought processes into multiple disciplines. Their tools, diagrams, graphs, tables, guides, etc, play an integral part in explaining hidden, verbal or written knowledge. The purpose of this investigation is to explain a unique subject, the Unani medicinal system, from a designer's point of view. With the envisioning properties of design tools, Author tried to explain interpretative historical and qualitative analysis of a popular indigenous medicinal system that is entrenched in the subcontinent. The multi-disciplinary design approach illustrates indigenous and historical sets of this discipline, and also justifies the irresistible power of design methodology in multiple disciplines around it. The subsequent proliferation of these visual design interventions and graphical methodologies may have helped in creating interesting new ways of thinking existing while keeping in view the more familiar traditional healing methods. This design penetration also illustrates Author's subjective preferences with empirical confirmation related to the old Greek medicinal ideology on which the Unani system is based. (In Indo-Perso-Arabic expressions Unani means Greek but in the present context 'Unani' refers to the indigenous system of medicine amalgamated with the ancient Greek system.) The system invariably categorizes human being into four major humor compartments: (1) sanguine, )2) phlegmatic, (3) choleric, and (4)melancholic. Design or the paradigm of design thinking is being used in this research as a buffer or interpretive medium to simplify these interesting historical findings.
