TUCKINGMILL
'Tuckingmill' Is an area of Camborne in Cornwall - it was at the heart of Cornwall's mining industry.
Many of the properties in this area date back as far as the early 1800's - including mine worker's homes built near the South Crofty Tin Mine - a huge site at the top of East Hill - overlooking the village of Tuckingmill.
South Crofty was one of the largest tin mines in the country, and the last in Europe to close. The closure has left the residing areas to become neglected and delapidated - however, a bid has been submitted to the Big Lottery Fund for ambitious regeneration plans aimed at transforming the area into an eco-friendly mix of parkland and suitable buildings to meet commercial and residential demands.
William Bickford, inventor of the safety fuse, lived and worked in Tuckingmill.
