![]() | Cakewalkin' Babies Back Home --Ernie Carson Cakewalkin' Babies Back Home --Ernie Carson A clip from the mid seventies shows Ernie Carson and his Quartet in a performance in Altanta in the mid seventies. Next to Ernie on cornet we see Herman Foretich clarinet, Michael Milton "Peanuts" Fitch banjo and Hal "Shorty" Johnson tuba. With the passing of Wild Bill Davison in 1989, Ernie Carson has come the closest of anyone to filling the gap left by the colorful and highly expressive cornetist. Carson began playing trumpet while in grammar school and was working in theater bands by the time he was a junior in high school. A member of the Castle Jazz Band during 1954-1956 before spending two years in the Marines, Carson played with many groups in the Los Angeles area before joining Turk Murphy's band (1961-1962). Carson has appeared in countless settings (including with singer Pat Yankee) and has often led his own groups, including the Capital City Jazz Band (since 1972) and again his own Castle Jazz Band (starting in 1992). Carson, who doubles effectively on piano and is also an exuberant and humorous singer, lived in Atlanta during 1972-1995 and is now based out of Oregon. He has recorded with Jazzology, GHB, Fat Cat's Jazz, and Stomp Off, and is considered one of the top classic jazz cornetists. |

![]() | a song for New Orleans and Gulf Coast I did this one a while back. The song is about a girl and Hurricane Katrina. I had a girl named Trina in high school, I guess she is in there too.So the song is a mix of thoughts of both.A lost girl and a lost city.I saw online U2's Edge is helping get donations for musicians there. That was the first thing I though of when I heard the news. There will be a whole lot of vintage and current guitars lost. I like bass and drums too. not much of a wind instrument guy, and know that is a big part of the sound there. So i'm sure they need those too. you can send your old tuba or Strat, a harmonica..anything. contact http://www.musicrising.org to donate. I haven't, but want to send something. I have a hard time letting any instrument I recorded with go.But will try to select something worthy of the cause.I'd sell this song for proceeds, but have never sold a song and don't know how to go about it. besides it's kind of a strange song, It's not very direct, it drifts betewen talking to someone, and about something without warning.I do like it though and am happy I made it. |
