TRANSPORTATION MINISTER OF ISRAEL

The 'Transportation Minister of Israel' (currently styled as the 'Minister of Transportation and Road Safety' (, ''Sar HaTakhbura veHaBetikhut BeDerekhim'')) is the government minister at the head of the Transportation Ministry in Israel. A relatively minor post in the Israeli cabinet, it is often given to smaller parties in the governing coalitions. Nevertheless, there has been a Transportation Minister in every Israeli government to date. Shaul Mofaz of Kadima, a former Minister of Defense is the incumbent.
Three Prime Ministers (David Ben-Gurion, Menachem Begin and Ariel Sharon) have held the Transportation portfolio whilst in office, though only for a short time, whilst three Transportation Ministers (Ezer Weizman, Moshe Katsav and Shimon Peres) have gone on to become President.
There is also occasionally a Deputy Minster of Transportation.
