'Toluca Lake' is a district in the
San Fernando Valley region of the City of
Los Angeles, California.
It is situated in the southeastern
San Fernando Valley between the city of
Burbank, the Los Angeles district of
North Hollywood and the unincorporated county area of
Universal City. The area's historic boundaries are Cahuenga Boulevard, Clybourn Avenue, Camarillo Street and the
Los Angeles River.
An upscale community marked by tranquil neighborhoods, it is 12 miles north of
downtown Los Angeles and favored by
Hollywood professionals looking to get "out of the city," while still residing within the L.A. City limits. It is located between two major studios,
Universal Studios to the south and
Warner Bros. to the east.
The
Santa Monica Mountains surround the quiet, picturesque streets and provide plenty of recreational opportunities. The six-acre Toluca Lake offers fishing, swimming and boating. The private Lakeside Golf Club wraps around Toluca Lake, which is completely surrounded by private property, and has been seen by very few other than residents, or visitors to the homes, or to the Golf Club.
The local Catholic Church, Saint Charles Borromeo has played host to several celebrity funerals
[1], including that of
Bob Hope. The choir director
Paul Salamunovich was the former director of the esteemed
Los Angeles Master Chorale. He can be heard playing the organ Sundays at the 7:15 mass and directing the Choir at the 10:00 mass.
The curving, tree-lined streets and diverse assortment of homes is a favorite for television and movie scouts, and film crews are very frequent.
Toluca Lake is represented by City Councilman
Tom LaBonge in the
Los Angeles City Council.
NBC4 weatherman Fritz Coleman is the honorary mayor of Toluca Lake.
The
Bob's Big Boy Restaurant of Burbank (est. 1949), the oldest such restaurant in America and a
California Point of Historical Interest, is located right beyond the boundary of Toluca Lake and is often misidentified as being located there.
[1] [2] [3] Toluca Lake was also home to the first
IHOP restaurant in
1958; however, there is no longer an IHOP located there.
Several
condominium and
apartment complexes are located in Toluca Lake, along Riverside Drive and Moorpark Way. The first condominium complex to be built there is at 10470 Riverside Drive, erected in
1974.
Former actor and 40th
President of the
United States Ronald Reagan had his wedding reception with second wife
Nancy Reagan at the Toluca Lake home of actor (and best man)
William Holden on
March 4,
1952.
In the ''
Silent Hill'' series of video games, Toluca Lake is the name of the body of water around which the fictional town of Silent Hill is located.
