Ingredients Rundown
I'm speed reading to get everything in b4 my 10 minutes are up. I rundown some ingredients in products that we use. Dispell the myth of "alcohol". CETEARYL ALCOHOL - It is not really an "alcohol", such as rubbing alcohol, which would dry the skin, but it is an emulsifying wax, made by combining fatty alcohols from vegetable sources, such as coconut fatty alcohol. It can also be made artificially. It is used in many cosmetics as an emollient, thickening agent, moisturizer, emulsifier, stabilizer, opacifier as well as a carrying agent for other ingredients Cetearyl Alcohol - A waxy, crystalline solid used as an emulsifier. Not to be confused with drying, ethyl alcohols Cetyl Alcohol - A secondary emulsifier that thickens or adds body to lotions. Not to he confused with drying, ethyl alcohols. Stearyl Alcohol: An emulsion stabilizer; also adds body to a lotion. Ethyl Alcohol: Acts as a fat solvent in oils and lotions Isopropyl Myristate: The ester of isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid. It spreads very easily and promotes a dry feeling. Propylene Glycol: An aliphatic alcohol serving as an humectant in skin products and a solvent for preservatives, essential oils, flavors and fragrances. Also used in preparation of herbal extracts Propylparaben: Common cosmetic preservative that is anti-fungal and anti-microbial. Less water soluble than methylparaben. DEA (Diethanolamine): A neutralizing agent that raises pH. Mineral Oil: A liquid blend of hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum. An effective solvent for removing oil, grease and make-up from the skin. An excellent amplifier or intensifier allowing the skin to absorb ultraviolet rays more effectively. Most companies no longer use mineral oil in products; vegetable oils have been found to be as effective and more skin friendly. Petrolatum: Petroleum derived, inexpensive substance used to prevent moisture loss. Tends to feel tacky. Derivative of Petroleum Shea Butter: A natural lipid obtained from the fruit of the karite tree, butyrosperum parkii. The slightly greenish butter with soothing protecting qualities is said to have some sunscreening ability. Vitamin E (in its synthetic form, Tocopherol Acetate): A natural moisture binder that allows the skin to breathe and function naturally. Believed to have natural healing qualities. Castor Oil - Emollient, natural oil. Used in hair dressings, lipsticks, and skincare lotions. Obtained from the castor bean. Sunflower Oil: Obtained from sunflower seeds. Bland, pale yellow oil that contains large amounts of Vitamin E. Natural oil Jojoba Oil: Extracted from the seeds of the desert shrub simondsia chinesis this oil is actually an emollient ester with excellent spreading, lubricating and penetrating properties. Excellent for hair and scalp conditioning and said to be useful in oily skin preparations Sta -- sof- fro Glycerin: A naturally derived skin friendly humectant prepared by the hydrolysis of fats and oils Dicetyldimonium Chloride: A quaternary ammonium salt. Conditioner. Oleth-30/20/10/5: Potentially contaminated with impurities linked to cancer or other significant health problems. These are ethoxylated oleyl alcohols and are mild, virtually odorless nonionic surfactants and coemulsifier. And are used in personal care products as wetting agents, emulsifiers, solubilizers, conditioners and coupling agents. Oleth-5 is a yellow liquid and has an HLB of 8.8 It is typically used at 0.5-5%. •Potential breast carcinogen. •This chemical is used in these types of products: Hair Color and Bleaching, Styling Gel/Lotion, Conditioner, Shampoo, Facial Cleanser, Relaxer, Antiperspirant/Deodorant (Men's), Shaving Cream (Men's), Facial Moisturizer/Treatment, Eye Liner, Antiperspirant/Deodorant, Body Wash/Cleanser, Acne Treatment, Moisturizer, Around-eye Cream, Blush, Exfoliant/Scrub, Shaving Cream, Eye Shadow, Hair-loss Treatment, Baby Sunscreen, Pain/Wound Treatment, Hormonal Cream, Bronzer/Highlighter, Foot Treatment, Dandruff/Scalp Treatment. Phenoxyethanol: It is an aromatic ether alcohol and is classified as both an alcohol and an ether. It is used as a fragrance ingredient as well as a preservative. Dimethicone: Used for its superior spreadability, excellent emolliency, and water repellency.
Cajun Fried Turkey with Giblet Gravy
Summary: Josh visits his family in the Louisiana homeland. Josh's dad wakes him up early Christmas morning to film him deep frying a turkey. His mom prepares giblet gravy. Cajun cooking, singing, dancing, and laughing at its best! Ingredients: Fried Turkey (1 whole turkey, Cajun seasoning and injector, marinade of your choice, approx. 3 gallons of Peanut Oil (peanut oil is best because it has a high burn temp)) Giblet Gravy (Turkey heart, neck, and gizzard, 1 package of chicken gizzards, Handful of white onion, chopped, Handful of celery, chopped, Water, to cover the above, Cream of mushroom soup, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with 1/3 cup of cold water 2 hard-boiled eggs, diced) Directions: Wash turkey and remove the neck, gizzard, etc. from the cavity of the bird - set aside. Heat Oil to 350 degrees in a very large heavy pot on a propane burner outside. SLOWLY lower the turkey into the hot oil. Let fry for 4 minutes per pound. Lift out and let hot grease drain. Place turkey in pan and cover with tin foil and let rest for about 20 minutes or longer before carving. Boil first 5 giblet gravy ingredients for about an hour. Remove meat from broth. Dice meat, removing cartilage and neck bones. Return meat to broth and add cream of mushroom soup. Heat to boiling and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Add cornstarch/water mixture (this is your thickening agent). Simmer for about 30 additional minutes. Add eggs.

Solo Exhibition September 2007
These Are the Exmoor Landscapes I Couldn't Paint (Oil paint on board - Framed behind glass - all sold.) The six landscapes that form of the core of this exhibition were painted from memory. I tried to execute them 'en plein air' but it was the gorse season - no sooner was my easel erected than I fell prey to a severe asthma attack. After several puffs of Ventolin I gathered up all my paraphernalia, shoved it into the back of my Landrover and returned to the sterile safety of my own home, where I finished them off. My original idea was to follow the Monet concept and paint the vista at a given time (so the light, shadows etc. are time specific) - but I would be dead by now. So I gave myself a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the six indoors. I'm not a lover of landscape paintings - these images are a reaction to the environment, physical and visual. In truth I would be happier if Exmoor was concreted over and turned into an out of town shopping complex - I would get more pleasure from the space if it was. Napalm Exmoor National Park (Oil paint on canvas - sold) The seventh (landscape) painting is four canvases stuck together -- the title is self explanatory. If this happened maybe a real regeneration of the Exmoor/North Devon economy could happen. Napalm - a highly flammable jelly, produced by mixing a thickening agent with petrol, and used in flamethrowers and fire bombs. Exmoor National Park - designated park area in south-western England, established in 1954. It occupies 693 sq km (267 sq mi). Regeneration - in biology, the ability of a living organism to regrow a portion of its body that has been injured or lost. Plants may regenerate... Weedkiller Over Clematis (Oil paint on canvas - all sold) The fashion for gardening, for an asthmatic, is a cruel joke. We have been 'doing' the garden at our home and I made the mistake of planting several climbing plants - I now know I have another contact allergy! Yet again concrete is the only true solution to my problems. The larger paintings in this exhibition are based on the colours these climbing plants go when you spray them with weedkiller.
Harvesting Irish Moss
They still use horses to harvest Irish Moss on Prince Edward Island and environs. Irish Moss is used to make carrageen which is a thickening agent used in many foods. The horses drag large metal baskets that scoop up the Irish Moss (a seaweed type plant) near the shore. The Moss collects near the shore after a storm. Video was taken on July 1, 2007. More info can be found at http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/PrinceEdwardIslandHarvest/moss_e/mosstech.html
Cal Fire Landing at Ramona, CA
From the Cal Fire website: In support of its ground forces, the CAL FIRE emergency response air program includes 23 Grumman S-2T 1,200 gallon airtankers (one is kept as maintenance relief), 11 UH-1H Super Huey helicopters (two are kept as maintenance relief, and 14 OV-10A airtactical aircraft (one is kept as maintenance relief). From 13 air attack and nine helitack bases located statewide, aircraft can reach most fires within 20 minutes. The airtactical planes fly overhead directing the airtankers and helicopters to critical areas of the fire for retardant and water drops. The retardant used to slow or retard the spread of a fire is a slurry mix consisting of a chemical salt compound, water, clay or a gum-thickening agent, and a coloring agent. While both airtankers and helicopters are equipped to carry fire retardant or water, the helicopters can also transport firefighters, equipment and injured personnel. All CAL FIRE Aircraft are strategically located throughout the state at airbases and helicopter bases. During high fire activity, CAL FIRE may move aircraft to better provide statewide air support. The average annual budget of the CAL FIRE Aviation Management Program is nearly $20 million. A total of 18 CAL FIRE personnel oversee the program with an additional 130 contract employees providing mechanical, pilot and management services to the program. CAL FIRE's current support contractors are DynCorp and Logistics Specialties Incorporated (LSI). DynCorp provides airtanker and airtactical plane pilot services, and all aircraft maintenance services. (All CAL FIRE helicopters are flown by CAL FIRE pilots.) LSI provides procurement and parts management services.
Parameciums
Here is a video of a drop of water from my pond through a microscope. Theres loads of Parameciums swimming around, the specks are single celled algae (I think) and the clumps of plant matter are tiny specks to the naked eye. Here's some info about Parameciums... Movement The outer surface of the cell is covered with many hundreds of tiny hair-like structures called cilia. These act like microscopic oars to push through the water, enabling the organism to swim. The speed of motion is about four times its own length per second. It moves so quickly that microscopists have to add a thickening agent to the water to slow it down to study it. As it moves through the water it rotates on its axis and small particles of debris and food are collected and swept into the gullet. If Paramecium comes across an obstacle, it stops, reverses the beating of the cilia, swims backwards, turns through an angle and moves forward again on a slightly different course. Feeding Paramecium has a permanent feeding mechanism, consisting of a funnel-shaped gullet into which food is drawn by the combined action of cilia which cover the body and other cilia lining the gullet. They feed on small organisms such as bacteria and even other smaller protozoa. Reproduction Paramecium has two means of reproduction, simple division and conjugation. A. Division. In favourable conditions the cell divides in two by a process called binary fission. This forms two new cells, each of which rapidly grows any new structures required and increases in size. This whole process make take place two or three times a day if conditions were right. B. Conjugation. This is a more complicated method. It involves two cells coming together to exchange nuclear material. The two cells then separate and continue to reproduce by simple division. It is similar in some ways to sexual reproduction in more complex animals.
Kinase Plus- Fights fibrin build-up and keeps blood flowing
Fibrin, one of the primary clotting agents, should "turn on" in the case of an injury to help clot your blood. Then turn off when the bleeding has stopped. In the elderly and those with chronic health conditions, however, these white stringy fibers develop during the healing process, often forming scar tissue. This excess fibrin—from scars, surgeries, or arterial sclerotic plaque (scar tissues of the arteries)—can cause the blood to thicken. The thickened blood acts like a "sludge," preventing oxygen and nutrients from reaching the cells and creating a breeding ground for infectious agents. Thick blood can also be caused by chronic infection, inflammation, and heavy metal toxicity. So keeping your blood—your body's "river of life"—clean and flowing smoothly without infection is vital to staying healthy and feeling better. Research over the past 25 years has shown that Nattokinase—a traditional Japanese folk medicine from Natto—helps strengthen the heart and thin thickened blood by dissolving excess fibrin in the circulatory system. Kinase Plus, a proprietary enzyme blend based on the powerful fibrin-reducing properties of Natto, contains 2,000 fibrinolytic units (FU) in each capsule. More potent than other nattokinase supplements, Kinase Plus helps dissolve fibrin build-up to keep your blood flowing freely and smoothly. And because Kinase Plus is so effective, you only need to take up to three capsules a day to feel better—not the six or 12 suggested for other nattokinase supplements.
