History

The Militia Group was founded in 1998 by Chad Pearson as a booking agency. The year 2000 saw Chad Pearson team up with good friend Rory Felton to start a label called The Militia Group. Pearson lived in Huntington Beach, California and worked at Gap, while Felton was studying at USC. By January 2001, the label had signed Rufio, The Lyndsay Diaries, Tora! Tora! Torrance!, Veronica, and Noise Ratchet. Within the next year Copeland, The Rocket Summer, and Acceptance (band) joined the fold.
Prior to 2000, Pearson had been a booking agent for artists such as Slick Shoes, Craig's Brother, Dogwood, twothirtyeight, Acceptance, Element 101, and more. Felton had co-operated Arise Records, an independent label, out of his high school bedroom with Jason Irvine. Arise released music by Recess Theory (see also: John Ralston, Legends of Rodeo), Reflector (see also: The New Amsterdams), The National Acrobat, Tijuana Crime Scene (see also: Alex Brahl, Curb Appeal Records), Dawson High, and The Juliana Theory.
By 2002, the label had sold its first 100,000 albums with its first release: Rufio's 'perhaps, I suppose...'
By 2004, the label had grown extensively and diversely into many different musical realms.
By 2005, Militia had sold over 1,000,000 albums.
In early 2007, Pearson left TMG to start a company called P is for Panda. Spring 2007 saw the addition of Juliette & the Licks and Mobile to the roster.
