Grazing Response Index Workshop
Fairfield--The Idaho Farm Bureau will sponsor a workshop on July 8th with one of the world's foremost authorities on range conservation and preservation at Camas High School in Fairfield, Idaho. Dr. Roy Roath of Colorado State University pioneered and developed the Grazing Response Index. The GRI was developed to assess the effects of grazing during the year and aid rangeland planning the next. The index looks closely at plant health in evaluating the impacts of grazing including the frequency of defoliation, intensity of defoliation, and recovery. Idaho Farm Bureau Range Specialist Wally Butler says effective and precise monitorining of grazing land is a must in modern day ranching operations. "It's very user friendly, and better yet it's a good way to get everyone on the same page." "Most Forest lands require monitoring and its a requirement in the permit process, this is very important, yet once you know what's required and how to do it, its relatively easy to do," said Butler, he adds, "The workshop is free and open to the public and we hope to get a lot of people out see Dr. Roath."If you want more information on the workshop you can email Wally Butler at wbutler@idahofb.org
York Dentist Accused 3-5-08
YORK - Dr. Mark Brouillette, 48, a longtime York dentist, was arrested yesterday around noon, at his office, by officers with the Nebraska State Patrol, the York County Sheriff's Department and the York Police Department. He is accused of illicitly prescribing painkillers. The Nebraska State Patrol says that the arrest came after a seven-month long investigation by the Rural Apprehension (RAP) Drug Task Force. He was officially booked on "suspicion of illegally distributing pharmaceutically controlled substances." At noon, investigators executed a search warrant on his office at 622 Burlington Ave., in York. The investigation into Dr. Brouillette's practices began when local law enforcement received information alleging the dentist was providing illicit prescription pain medication to several individuals. The investigation into the allegations continues. He was arrested and taken to the York County Jail. Deb Collins, spokesperson for the state patrol, said the charges of Distribution of a Controlled Substance are "multiple." The number of charges was not available as of press time - but distribution is a Class III felony that carries a possible maximum sentence of 1-20 years in prison, per count. Local law enforcement and the NSP were assisted in the investigation by the Nebraska Department of Health, the Drug Enforcement Administration and members of the RAP Drug Task Force. More than 30 law enforcement agencies in southeast Nebraska contribute to the RAP Drug Task Force which uses its combined strength to work against drug dealers and users. Law enforcement agencies from the following counties join the NSP as part of the RAP task force: Butler, Clay, Fillmore, Hamilton, Jefferson, Merrick, Nuckolls, Polk, Saunders, Seward, Thayer, Webster and York. RAP is funded by a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, administered by the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice.
