THE 48 LAWS OF POWER
'''The 48 Laws of Power''' is a book by Robert Greene and published by Joost Elffers, compared to Niccolò Machiavelli's ''The Prince'',[1] with the main difference being that the audience is not royalty, but the masses. It takes the form of a manual which provides laws for those who seek to increase their power in life. The work aims to illustrate that "certain actions always increase one's power ... while others decrease it and even ruin us." The work has become very popular among hip hop artists and producers.[2]

Sources and inspirations
Greene uses anecdotes from notable historical figures such as Talleyrand, Otto von Bismarck, Catherine the Great, Mao Zedong, Haile Selassie, Lola Montez, Saul Alinsky and various con artists in order to exemplify the 48 rules. Published in September 1998, the book has been compared to Sun-Tzu's The Art of War, written as a set of 13 theories on Chinese ground military strategy with the common idea with Greene's laws: it's all about illusion. Furthermore, Greene's modern way of courtship was greatly inspired by the writings of Baltasar Gracian and Niccolò Machiavelli. Greene also often appears to use an amoral approach, leaving the reader to weigh the ethical implications of the laws.
His blog ''Power, Seduction and War: The Robert Greene Blog'', has expanded many of the themes from this book--which he commonly refers to as the POWER book.
