TANZAWA
'Tanzawa'(Japanese:丹沢:spelled same in romaji) is a mountain area, in the Kantō region. Although the name is not formally recognized by the authorities, it covers the Northwestern part of Kanagawa Prefecture and it touches the prefectural borders of Shizuoka Prefecture to the West and the Yamanashi prefecture to the North.
The most frequented peak by the climbers is Toonodake (Japanese: 搭ノ岳,1491m.; spelled same in romaji: ) in the Eastern part, mainly due to its easier transportation access.
The climbers come from various parts of the county, but there have been a growing number of international climbers.
The Western part is less often visited, but offers the opportunity of river trekking or sawanobori (沢登: spelled same in romaji).
