SYRIAN PEOPLE

'Syrian people' are defined as a Middle Eastern ethnic group, in the sense of sharing a common Syrian culture, speaking Syrian Arabic as a mother tongue and being of Syrian descent. Syrians can also include people who spoke the other historical languages of Syria like Syriac. Syrians are found primarily in Syria. Additionally, an estimated 17 million people living away from Syria identify as Syrians or of Syrian descent. This group does not include the minorities living in Syria, such as the Kurds and Armenians, who, despite being citizens of Syria, are not of Syrian ethnicity.
