SUTHERLAND CUP

The 'Sutherland Cup' is the ice hockey Ontario Junior "B" Provincial Championship trophy. The three Junior "B" leagues of the Ontario Hockey Association, the Golden Horseshoe Junior B Hockey League, the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League, and the Western Junior B Hockey League, send their playoff champions to compete for the coveted trophy.
As there is no National Championship at the Junior "B" level, The Sutherland Cup is the highest obtainable trophy for teams of this level in Ontario. It is comparable to the Carson Trophy in the Ottawa District Hockey Association, Coupe Dodge in Hockey Quebec, Don Johnson Cup in the maritime provinces, or Keystone Cup in Western Canada.
A few teams, with their excellent performances at the Sutherland Cup, have moved on to higher leagues. The Erie Otters (Hamilton), Barrie Colts, and Belleville Bulls were Sutherland Cup Champs before moving up to the Ontario Hockey League. The St. Michael's Buzzers, Markham Waxers, Bramalea Blues, and Streetsville Derbys are all now members of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, all former Sutherland Cup champs.
