The prince's saga contradicts another widely held Western belief -- that Africans sold in the slave trade were uncivilized. In fact, many were doctors, dentists, lawyers, professors, musicians and members of royal families. And a large number were Muslim." http://www.toubab.com/Contents/The_Niger_Trip/Timbuktu/tm13/tm14/w_post.html Bornu http://endingstereotypesforamerica.org/bornu.html nok civilization http://www.nok-benin.co.uk/history_nok.htm Kongo http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/africa/features/storyofafrica/10chapter2.shtml Great Zimbabwe http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/africa/features/storyofafrica/10chapter1.shtml African Astronomy, including Bushmen http://sociolingomali.wordpress.com/2006/09/23/timbuktu-astronomer-unearths-evidence-of-scientific-tradition-in-africa/ http://www.physicstoday.org/vol-59/iss-4/p30.html http://timbuktufoundation.org/manuscripts.html The Scientific Existence of African People http://husky1.stmarys.ca/~hmillar/Afrsci.htm 100 things you didn't know about Africa http://www.whenweruled.com/articles.php?lng=en&pg=37

Mama Africa
Artist: Akon Song: Mama Africa *This is not only a music video, notes begin from 24 seconds into the video. According to the IMF, in 2007 sub-Saharan Africa experienced one of its highest growth rates in decades. Real GDP expanded by about 6½ percent fueled by growing production in oil exporters and rising domestic investment and productivity across the region. Drivers include successes in stabilizing economies and implementing structural reforms. Solid global demand for commodities, greater flows of capital to Africa, and debt relief have helped increase resources and lift growth. Over the past decade many countries have been reforming their economies and strengthening their macroeconomic policies, and this is now bearing fruit. Improvements in the business environment in some countries have helped support growth. Moreover, armed conflicts and political instability have become less frequent. As a result, not only have investment and growth increased but income volatility has fallen to near-30-year lows. Private capital flows to sub-Saharan Africa in 2007 reached over US$50 billion—about four times larger than flows in 2000. Most flows were directed to Nigeria and South Africa, but the increases also reflect the improved fundamentals elsewhere in the region. In a small group of countries, notably Ghana, Uganda, and Zambia, portfolio flows have been on the rise, attracted by improved risk ratings and higher yields. In 2006, private capital flows to sub-Saharan Africa overtook official aid for the first time. The acceleration of private capital flows to sub-Saharan Africa is an opportunity, especially since aid flows have remained unchanged in recent years. These inflows provide countries with an alternative source of financing for infrastructure and other investments, and should contribute to higher growth while enhancing prospects for meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
