'Steve Caballero', (born November 8, 1964, San Jose, California), is a professional skateboarder.
Steve was born in the year of the dragon, and has had several board graphics that feature dragons. He was born with scoliosis (curved spine.) Because of this condition, one of his neck glands grew larger than the other, so his head tilts to one side.
Caballero started skating in 1976 at the age of 12. He was sponsored as an amateur by Powell Peralta in 1978 at the age of 15. He turned pro in 1980 at the Oasis Skatepark, Southern California during the Gold Cup series. He is a member of the Bones Brigade, and has appeared in many of their videos, including ''The Search For Animal Chin''. His past sponsors included Tracker Trucks, Standard Trucks and Bones Wheels. Caballero has been featured on the cover of Thrasher Magazine and several other publications. Steve was also a character in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Video Game, and all versions after that. He was the only player in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 that automatically had a "method" trick. In THPS 2, you could pick between two styles for Caballero. Style A, which was Steve wearing a maroon zip hoodie and jeans, and Style B, which was Steve with a yellow t-shirt, cargo shorts, and a helmet.
He invented the Caballerial, around 1980, in the 10 ft. keyhole pool at Winchester Skatepark in Campbell, California. As well as the frontside rock n' roll slide (now more commonly referred to as a ''frontside board slide'').
He has been a member of several punk bands including The Faction, Odd Man Out, Shovelhead, and Soda, and released a compilation CD the various bands he has appeared in titled ''Bandology'' through Sessions Records. He also paints, collects toys, rides motocross, and is a hot rod enthusiast. Caballero is divorced from his first wife with whom they had a daughter, Kayla Leslie. Caballero remarried on July 14, 2006 to a woman named Rachel. He was a Catholic, then a Zen Buddhist, and is now a Pentecostal Christian.
