STATEIRA I

'Stateira I' was wife of Darius III of Persia of the Achaemenid dynasty. She was known as the most beautiful woman in the Earth. Captured by Alexander the Great after the Battle of Issus, 333 BC. Died giving birth or illness, still in captivity. Some sources suggest the father of the child might be a man other than Darius, Alexander perhaps (since no one would have been allowed to have sex with her, other than Darius). Stateira I was mother of Stateira II.
