Mugabe dances like a white man
President Robert Mugabe was said to have won by a wide margin, after the opposition boycotted the vote amid claims of violence and intimidation. But international observers have reported many spoilt ballots, which in some areas could outnumber votes cast.
Why Ron Paul is a Loon - Part 1: He Supports Spoilt Brats
Why Loony Ron Paul is Loony by LoonyRonPaul Part One: He Supports Spoilt Brats Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate who wants to get out of Iraq immediately (or is he?). And I agree with him on that issue 100%. Get out, and if the Iraqis want to kill each other, let them. And yes, he is principled. But his principles are so batshit crazy on other issues there's not a chance in hell I'd vote for him. Neither should you. Here's why: Voted YES on eliminating the Estate Tax ("death tax"). http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Ron_Paul_Tax_Reform.htm Eliminating the estate tax? Loony. Republicans call it the death tax. Democrats call it the Paris Hilton tax. And so do I. The estate tax helps to prevent America from becoming a nation of plutocracy, full of spoilt brats like Paris Hilton and George W. Bush. I say increase the estate tax - let's tax the trust fund kids and use it to help kids who weren't born into privilege. The funny thing is, the loudest opponents of the estate tax are those who wouldn't even be affected by it. How much would you need to be affected by the Estate Tax? $2 million. That's if you're single. If you're a couple, it doubles to $4 million. And the bar would be raised higher in 2009. Also family-owned businesses and small farms receive special treatment under the tax, including large deductions when the business or farm represents at least 50% of the estate, and assessments that reduce the estimated value of assets. These special rules frequently allow family-owned businesses and farms to pass on $5 to $8 million, tax-free, to heirs. http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2003/0103hunter.html Worried about losing the family business or family farm? Consider this: The New York Times reported that when the pro-repeal American Farm Bureau Foundation was challenged to produce one real case of a farm that was lost because of the estate tax, it could not cite a single example. http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2003/0103hunter.htm Still don't agree with me that the estate tax is a good idea? Fine. But that means you also disagree with the following people: Adam Smith and Thomas Jefferson: http://archive.salon.com/politics/feature/2001/02/15/estate_tax/ Andrew Carnegie and Warren Buffett: http://www.pgtoday.com/pgt/articles/mt_rushmore_and_a_history.htm Thomas Paine and George Soros: http://www.pgtoday.com/pgt/articles/the_estate_of_the_union.htm Bill Gates and Bill Gates Snr.: http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2003-01-12-gates_x.htm Are you going to tell me that all these people are wrong as well? And now a quote from a President who, like George W. Bush, was born a child of privilege: "The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough to those who have little." - Franklin D. Roosevelt Words that Republicans - and Libertarians - should think about. http://www.commondreams.org/views01/0410-05.htm Supporting Spoilt Brats - one reason that Ron Paul is a loon. More to come. LRP: Deprogramming the Ron Paul retards, one retard at a time.
Crushing victory for BN: Slap in the face for BA?
BN's Abdul Aziz Kiram steamrolled past the 22-year-old Ng Chee Pang by amassing a whopping 5,857-vote majority. This is 3,186 votes more than the majority achieved in 2004 general election. Abdul Aziz, 46, gained 6,276 votes while Ng garnered 419 votes. Ng also lost his RM5,000 deposit. There were 385 spoilt votes. Returning Officer Abdul Kadir Awang Bakar made the announcement at about 8pm at the Raub Silver Jubilee Hall. Also present was Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Today some 7,131 or 67.32 percent of the 10,525 registered voters for the Batu Talam state seat went to the polls until the centres closed at 5pm. In 2004, about 76.59 percent of the 10,866 registered voters voted to give a victory to BN in this traditional seat. The question now is: Is this a rejection to PAS's boycott of the by-election?
Anwar Menang | Pilihanraya Kecil Permatang Pauh |
http://pancutkanisteri.com BUKIT MERTAJAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has won the Permatang Pauh by-election. The PKR de-facto leader was returned to Parliament with a majority of 15,671 votes, exceeding the 13,388-vote majority won by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in the March 8 general election. Anwar garnered 31,195 votes to beat Barisan candidate Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah, who polled 15,524 votes, while Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia candidate Hanafi Hamat lost his RM15,000 deposit after getting only 92 votes. There were 447 spoilt votes. "This is the people's victory," Anwar said in a victory speech. "Permatang Pauh has given a clear signal to the leadership of this country. We demand change. We want freedom. We don't want to live with corruption and oppression. "We want an independent judiciary, we want the economy to benefit the vast majority not the corrupt few," he added. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the result was proof that democracy was still alive in the country and there was no manipulation involved. "As we have pointed out right from the start, we would be facing a tough challenge," he said. The closely watched by-election was called after Dr Wan Azizah resigned as the MP on July 31 to enable her husband to run for election. Anwar held the seat for four terms before he was sacked from his Deputy Prime Minister's post in 1998 under corruption and sodomy charges. Dr Wan Azizah, who had been known as a reluctant politician, won the seat for a third term in March. A mammoth crowd comprising PKR leaders and supporters gathered early at the tallying centre at the Tuanku Bainun Teacher Training College in Bukit Mertajam to celebrate Anwar's victory. Supporters in the crowd let off fireworks as returning officer Roslan Yahaya announced the results about 10pm. Voter turnout was relatively high, at about 80% of the total of 58,459 registered voters in the constituency. Barisan was the underdog from the start in the hard-fought by-election that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak described as a titanic challenge. Anwar's convincing victory was reminiscent of his heyday, when he secured a stunning 23,515-vote majority in the 1995 general election by polling 27,945 votes. In Tuesday's polling, 47,258 voters cast their ballots, or 80.83% of the 58,459 total number of voters.
