'Somatophylakes' (singular: ''somatophylax''). Literal translation from Greek: "body guard". High-ranking bodyguards within the Ancient Macedonian army. Consisting of seven men who often held additional high command positions, such as general or chiliarch. Alexander the Great appointed Peucestas as eighth somatophylax after the siege of Malli.
