'Sipson' is a place in the
London Borough of Hillingdon situated near the northern perimeter of
London Heathrow Airport and 14.3 miles (23 km) west of
Charing Cross.
The majority of the village may disappear because of BAA's plan to create a Third Runway at Heathrow Airport. However, plans have been delayed due to both pressure from NOTRAG (the local No Third Runway Action Group http://www.notrag.org/) and concerns over environmental damage. Residents remain split over whether to accept substantial compensation as some are prepared to reject financial settlement to protect the village.
Current residents include Simon Lloyd Cuff, chapel warden at Keble College, Oxford.
Its name came from the
Anglo-Saxon ''Sibbwines tūn'' = "Sibbwine's farmstead".
