![]() | New! Taste of the Tattoo (2008) Part 3 of 5 It's time again for another exciting Taste of the Tattoo for this year's 2008 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I simple couldn't miss this year's wonderful performances from the cast that perform on Edinburgh's Castle Esplanade. This year, the taste of the tattoo was held for many tourists and locals that couldn't get a ticket for the sell out show. This year featured one show which is most likely due to the fact that ticket sales slowed down slightly this year. However, this one performance was a a cracker, attracting a huge open air audience. the weather was brilliant too and management of the event top notch. The acts feature music from the Massed Pipes and Drums, the Indian Army Military Band, Highland Dancers, the Golden Eagles University Band, the Singapore Police Pipes and Drums, HM Kings Guard of Norway and the Royal Regiment of Scotland. For more information and press releases for future events next August, check out: http://www.edinburgh-tattoo.co.uk Best Bit: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtVtCRHLXpc#t=0m40s |

![]() | Conquest of Malaya and Singapore - Japanese Naval March 1941 December, Japanese troops landed at Kota Baru in Malaya. Within a few hours, all the British airfields were taken and thus began a quick march down the Malayan Peninsula. 2 months later, Singapore fell. Clip shows the landing from the sea and a Japanese unit advancing under heavy fire. A soldier could be seen cutting the barb wire fence before the rest charged into the gap. Also seen are tanks along the Singapore Padang with City Hall at the background and the reception given to General Yamashita by the surrendering British and Indian troops. The music is a Japanese Naval march called the "March of the Warships" (軍艦行進曲)or the "Gunkan March". It was composed in 1897 by naval troop band leader Tokichi Setoguchi, the words were written by Hiraku Toriyama. It was used as the march of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and after WW II re-adopted as the march of the Maritime Self Defense Forces of Japan. The figures for the massecre of the civilian population in Singapore varied from 6000 to 40,000. The lower figure was gleaned from the Kempei Tai Japanese military police. The higher figure from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The civilian population in Malaya suffered a similar fate. All those who had experienced Japanese Occupation should be able remember this stirring Naval war song, even though they had bad memories of the event. |
![]() | Ninja Monsters X08 Rock Band Competition Finals 1st Song Our band, Ninja Monsters, got into the finals of the X08 Rock Band competition. We were given 3 downloaded songs to choose from: Dr Feel Good - Motley Crue Message In A Bottle - The Police Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers Under the Bridge was probably the most familiar song but was rather slow compared to the rest. Message in a Bottle was the longest song so we decided to go with that one. We dont usually play on Xbox Live.. so we had to register with Xbox, buy points, download the song, learn a song (that sadly, non of us has ever heard before... no disrespect to The Police.. it was a good song), practice it and then play it for the finals the following day.. all in one night (because you only know the song list when they call to tell you that you made it through the qualifiers) Our usual score during 1 night worth of home practice are usually somewhere between 1.1mil to 1.5mil. For some reason, we never do as well in competitions.
