'Simpson County' is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Mississippi. As of 2000, the population was 27,639. The
county seat is
Mendenhall 6. It is part of the
Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. Simpson County is named for Judge
Josiah Simpson.
Geography
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,529

mi²). 1,525 km² (589 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it (0.30%) is water.

The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the county the population was spread out with 27.90% under the age of 18, 9.40% from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44, 22.10% from 45 to 64, and 13.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.40 males.
