'Sheikh Zayed Road' (in Arabic: شارع الشيخ زايد) ('E11') is a highway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, running parallel to its coastline from Trade Centre Roundabout to the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in the area of Jebel Ali.
The road was formerly known as the Defence Road. Local residents referred to it as Trade Centre Road. In the 1990s the highway was overhauled and renamed by Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum after the then president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan.[1] The first stretch of the highway between Trade Centre Roundabout and Interchange 2 is home to most of Dubai's skyscrapers, including Burj Dubai (currently under construction) and Emirates Towers. The highway also connects to other new developments such as The Palm Jumeirah. The road will soon have most of the Red Line of Dubai Metro running parallel to it.
