SEXTUS APPULEIUS

'Sextus Appuleius' was a member of a senatorial family and a descendant of Lucius Appuleius Saturninus, the maternal grandfather of triumvir Marcus Aemilius Lepidus. His was the namesake of his father who was consul in 29 BC, while is his mother is unknown.
During his consulship in 14, after Emperor Augustus had died and Tiberius had succeeded him, Appuleius was the first to swear allegiance to Tiberius. Appuleius married Emperor Augustus's niece Claudia Marcella Major. They had a daughter, Appuleia Varilla.
