'Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ahmad Boestamam' is an
SMK (national secondary school) in the
Sitiawan region of
Malaysia named after
Ahmad Boestamam, a historical figure who helped in gaining independence from the
British. The
school used to be known as SMK Sitiawan. This school was founded in 1878. It started out with 298 students. Currently, the number of students enrolled in this school is ''1456''. The school is a fully government-funded school which follows the new
Intergrated Curriculum for Secondary Schools syllabus.
Achievements
In its illustrious history,
SMK Ahmad Boestamam has won many awards and recognition throughout
Malaysia. It has been named a five-star school by the
Ministry of Education of
Malaysia. It has also won the state level cleanliness, safety and landscaping competition. The school has produced many fine sportsmen and
athletes for the country. Students from the school have entered the
Langkawi International Regatta, national
sailing competitions,
marathon,
football,
taekwondo,
silat and
badminton championships. The school also ranks highly amongst the schools in the district of
Manjung. The school has come out tops in the district
debate contest and in academic achievement has become one of the most sought-after schools in
Malaysia.
Facilities
The school has a small
mosque. The school also has a hostel for boys and girl. It is a co-educational school. SMK Ahmad Boestamam is a semi-residential school. It has a hall where the weekly assembly is held.
